My girls will be going to WDW on a high school music (a competition offsite, etc.). We found out last night that my older DD and her marching band will be marching before the parade at MK.:yay: Being a scrapping mom I view this as a once in a lifetime can't miss photo op (plus I really want to go--just not as a chaperone ;)). DH says I should just let the girls go and have fun on their trip without tagging along. Help me convince him (btw- I have priced it and money isn't an issue if I don't buy any scrapping stuff for the next 7 months :rotfl:) Thanks so much-- Cheryl:goodvibes

Disney World is a huge place. Can't you go the same time, just not to the same parks, except for the day that DD is marching at WDW? Seems to me best of both, you're not spoiling their trip without parents and you get to see and photograph your DD marching.

What do the girls want?

I think you can be there and not be intrusive. Can DH go too? Maybe the two of you could have a nice mini vacation alone but still be near the girls.

I was hoping for DH to come along too. The high school has so many offers for chaperones that they are drawing names out of a hat. I was planning to give the girls "alone with friends" space while the school is there and extending the trip for 4 days of family time :)

That is the plan I would go with. 1/2 the family is already there so why not join them after the school stuff is done.

when are they going? I wonder is some really good codes will be out to help offset the cost.

And does the group booking allow you to add extra days? We could do that for the scrapbook convention next week.

I spoke to the TA this morning and he said no problem, that he could change the girls return flight and add days to their hoppers with a couple mouse clicks. They are going at the end of March (the week before Easter), so I'm not hopeful for codes, but, they might release some, I'll keep looking.

March is tough for codes since it's the beginning of Spring Break but you never know.

Now, how can we convince hubby it's a good idea? You have plenty of time to save though right?

I was very fortunate to have 2 out of 3 of my children march in the MK parade during Spring Break 2002. Being Band President fortunately made it very easy for me to "have to go", along with the other 2 members of our family.

My daughter was in Flags & wore a Jasmine type outfit since the theme that year was Aladdin. And my son was 1st lieutenant for the drummers.

We all went backstage where the floats come out & were addressed by a representative & they described how the bands are chosen. Later everyone got a special T-shirt & pin keepsake that can not be purchased. And yes we took lots of pictures as well a Disney photographer also taking sections of our band.

It was a very proud moment. My oldest marched at Universal Studio's when Grease celebrated 25 years, it was great but certainly not like Disney's!

I hope everyone gets to go & enjoy the special treatment

How fun! Go if you can!

My son has been down there three times with show choir for Magic Music Days and once for the National Performing Arts Festival with musical theatre. I went on one show choir trip as a chaperone and we took our family on the musical theatre trip. I enjoyed the trip with my family more even though my son didn't stay with us most of the trip ... he rode down there and back with us. However, we saw his performance and award banquet ... and took lots of pics!

DH said yes!!! Now we're trying to convince him to go too (he's not as "into" Disney as the rest of us). Time to start saving my pennies and climb back onto the "ban wagon" :)

Congratulations to the girls. You must be very proud, of course you have to go to see the parade.

GO GO GO!!!!

my oldest dd went last year on her band trip, marched down main street...I took younger dd and we went too...let older dd do her thing, but was font & center to capture it all for scrapbooking! My daughter was totally fine with it, she knew that I'd be crying every time I looked a a picture of her marching in front of the castle.

It IS a once in a lifetime chance, you're not just her mom, you're not just a scrapbooker...you a DISNEY scrapbooking MOM! 'nough said :goodvibes

My girls are so excited to go. Older DD even asked if I'd be able to focus the camera through my tears ;)

My DS's marching band will march at Disney Easter 2011 and I'm already making plans to go at the same time. We all love Disney and can not wait to see it. It is a once in a lifetime thing. I can not wait to scrap that trip too!!

Have fun!

i got to do this at Disneyland when i was on the flag team my freshman year of high school! it was soo much fun. we even got to learn a whole dance in their dance studio from the parade that we performed before.
