DD is home sick today

nothing major but home nonetheless. I didn't call the school to report her absense. Its almost 2pm and I have yet to hear from the school. Don't you think they would have called to inform me that DD wastn't in school? Heaven forbid, something had happened to her, I wouldn't know until it was time for her to be home.

Does your school call when you child is not at school and you don't let them know?

Where I work and even in my DD and DS school system we have a program called SASI. A computer generated phone call starts calling home after 10am to let you know that your student wasn't in Periods ***, it also is a good system for those students who cut. BUT, on the other hand, sometimes the teachers do not take the attendance they should and there would be no way of knowing if your child was absent or not . . .

Regardless, if I know my kids are home from school, I call first thing in the a.m. to inform them to alleviate getting those messages and possibly avoiding a misunderstanding about class cuts.

No, the schools here don't call. Parents just send a note upon return. If you were supposed to call, why didn't you.

My dd's home sick, too. Her high school always calls when they're out, but today they didn't for some reason.

When my kids were in elementary school I got a phone call by 9:30 at the LATEST. If I had made mistake I apologized for forgetting (often after those up all nights with her) and if I KNEW she had left I insisted they put me on hold and then go get her so I could say HI.

Now highschool is an entire different case. We call in am -- or even the night B4 if we know she will be sick and tell them her name & class. Following day gotta send a note ( I often just say absent with my permission) If we don't call we get silicon sally calling around 7 (it calls alphabeticly and we are R) and it just says "a student in your house in grade such and such was absent during periods such & such."

My kids aren't old enough for school yet, but we have the computer generated phone calls, too. I don't get why you didn't call the school & then are upset that the school didn't call you.

WE too have computer generated calls, w/the principal's voice n them.

But in SoCal....attendance is everything...schools get paid per head per day!
