Hi all,

My DD (aged 21) went to WDW on the 6th June with the College Program and has been allocated ride operator on Peter Pan and Small World. She's still training but this week is actually on the rides.

If any of you are there between now and 11 August please stop by and say hi to Chloe (Northallerton, UK)!

That's fab.

What a great experience for her.

Did it take long from application to being accepted & in post?:flower1:

She applied on the final day of applications in September and it wasn't long before she heard from them (Yummy Jobs) to say she had got through to the group interview stage in Epping (Yummy Jobs offices), she went there sometime in October. Again, only a few weeks later she heard she had got through to the final interview stage in November in Hammersmith, Disney HQ was so cool! They were told they would know before Christmas if they had got through or not, and she got her email on the evening of the 22nd December.

Once the new year was over she had a mountain of paperwork to complete and online things too. She then had to apply for a work visa which involved a visit to the US Embassy in London in March with a million documents to prove that she would indeed return after her work period ended. She has had to pay for her own flights, insurance, medical cover, visa, etc. and the disney accommodation is around $100 per week, but she does get paid for the work she does. The accommodation is walking distance to the Premium Outlets on Vineland and she is in with 7 other girls and has to share a room with one of them but she has been really lucky and they are all lovely girls, mostly from the north of the uk and 2 from HK Disney. They have a small shop and lovely pool on site and free shuttles to work and the parks.

It's a lot of effort and expense but it is worth it, she is loving it even though she's only on training so far. Watch this space for any exciting updates.

Oh and a little girl curtseyed to her on her first day lol!

I will certainly try to say hi to her. At 61 I don't ride Space Mountain or spinning tea cups anymore (unless my daughter "makes" me), but I still love Peter Pan and Small World. My trip is last week of July, so I may be able to see her. Why is her time there so short? Were there no 6 month programs available, or did she not want to stay that long? I am glad she is enjoying it so much.

My DDs friend flys out on Saturday; she'll be in the resort shop at Port Orleans, Megan from Bedford. Hope she enjoys it as much as your DD, I was a bit worried a resort shop may be a bit slow and boring, I would love the Peter Pan ride, especially if assisting exit, you'd clock up thousands of steps on your Fitbit :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. She's there until 11th August. The college program is only 10 weeks, it's meant to fit in with UK uni's finish and start times. The other option open to anyone over 18 is the international program and I believe that is for 1 year and you have to work in the UK pavillion in Epcot.

Most of the girls she is sharing the flat with are in various shops and restaurants, except for one girl who is 'friends with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, etc' if you know what I mean :rolleyes1

I don't think it matters where they work, the experience and friendship between everyone there seems so worth it. My DD had some early starts last week so finished mid afternoon and managed to do the parks, Disney Springs, Fireworks, Walmart, Celebration during the rest of the days. She had yesterday and today off and has been shopping and park hopping again. She's done all that either on her own or meeting up with others on the program. They have chat groups so know where everyone is going to be all the time. She is staying in Chatham Square so let your DD's friend know that Shazzie B, think there's 3 or 4 different accommodation areas.

The exit on pan is the most stressful thing ever! People just sit there and don't bother to rush off the vehicle! She really likes small world and they make her do the announcements as she's 'so British' lol! She's northern!!

Sounds fab and such a good experience!

Random thought but does your dd go into the Disney parks for free?

Yes, she has a staff card so free entry to the parks and discount in the shops. Also staff discount in partner shops such as Apple, etc. She's trying really hard not to spend her wages before she has them lol!

Haha we are very close and if it's too late our time to message she'll email instead. She's on Facebook and snapchat too so we're seeing lots of pics. She'll get her 'earning my ears' tag off today if she passes the assessment!

DS is a bit less sharey although he has a bad cough and cold just now so if he's awake with it through night and sees that DD is finishing work he'll FaceTime her.

I have to say her being there has made us all suddenly very excited for our trip in September. We booked it long before she even applied for this and if we didn't have it booked I'd have gone out to see her while she was working.

She happened to message today to say if she books us a stay while she's working there she gets 50% off - she's going to find out how far in advance she can book as we wouldn't be going back for 2 or 3 years. SOOOOO TEMPTING LOL!
