DD getting her wisdom teeth out tomorrow and I'm nervous

I had my wisdom tooth taken out this summer. piece of cake and done in 2 minutes. no pain or anything. in fact...wasn't even given pain medication!

the only thing i felt about a month later was a little bit of TMJ for about 2 weeks but not bad.

I had 3 of mine taken out earlier this year. (one wasn't impacted, so my dentist just pulled it). It was a horrible, horrible experience. I didn't think a face could swell that much, and the pain and discomfort was unbelievable. My surgeon said that I had such a difficult time because I am so old. (29) He warned me it might not be pretty as teenagers have a much easier time with recovery. Your DD should be just fine-being so young!

I have heard so many stories of people feeling great the day after surgery. Try not to worry, she is doing it at the best possible time! :grouphug:

I know this is a little late but I have not been on. My son had his out on 12/27 well only 2 of them. He was eating a meatball sandwich and chips about 2 hours later!! How is your child? I am a wimp too I have never had a tooth pulled and it scares the heck out of me. My son is a big baby and if he had no problem then it tells me there is hope for the rest of us!

I'm glad that you made it through the first part of the ordeal. My advice to you is that insist that your DD take it easy for a few days. My DS had his wisdom teeth out last week (in a 2 hour surgery) and felt way too good the day after. So much so that he went to a party and tried to gum some pizza. He came home with swollen cheeks and it took two days for him to recover from the party. The pain meds may make your DD feel like she can return to normal activities much sooner than she should. She will be much better off if she just cools her jets for a couple of days.

DS is doing just fine 5 days post op. It is truly amazing how quickly the mouth heals.

This made me laugh a little. DS19 felt like a million dollars right after surgery while his mouth was still pretty numb. He felt so great, he insisted that his dad take him to the mall :rotfl: Well, being mature parents(ha!) we said no and he got mad. As he turned to stomp out of the room, he was overcome with vertigo and fainted into my arms. As he lay there on the floor, sick and white as a ghost he admitted that maybe he didn't feel so good...After that, he readliy agreed to go to bed and take his meds. Within about a day or two he was feeling good(tired) and was back at work within 4 days.

Well, I finally had my teeth out yesterday morning (only two of them). I'm actually glad I did two instead of four because I think this whole recovery period would be twice as hard! (I'm a real wuss)

It hasnt been too bad. Put ice on my cheek for 20 minute intervals all day yesterday and have practically no swelling (DBf is annoyed he doesnt have a chipmunk for a gf! :) ). Regular extra strength tylenol actually seemed to help me better than the tylenol with codine they prescribed for me - which is why the only real bad pain I was in was before bed cause thats what I took and it never really kicked in!

So anyway, I'm here to ask for good mushy foods to be able to eat over the next few days, since I'm an annoyingly picky eater... I dont like yogurt, or pudding, or jello, or apple sauce ...which is going to make it harder on monday, when I'm not home, but at work. So far, yesterday I ate soup, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. Was thinking for breakfast at work I could bring cottage cheese (I've also never been a fan of oatmeal, which was another thought). Any other ideas?

Thanks!

My DD, who had her wisdom teeth out in December, ate lots of smoothies and raman. She also is a VERY picky eater. 3 weeks later she is doing fine. Actually a few days after having her wisdom teeth out she was fine.

Good Luck

I also recommend doing all 4 at the same time.

Oh I agree 100%
Too many horror stories to tell but trust me, if you don't do all 4 at once, you'll likely NOT go back to have the others taken out! :rolleyes2

what is everyone's thoughts on getting all 4 teeth out at once versus getting 2 out at a time (one side, then the other side at a later date)? My parents are pretty adamant about having it done two at a time...but i'm pretty sure once i do it on one side, i wont want to go back again to do it on the other side

I was supposed to have them out during winter break my senior year (so 2 years ago) but I got the flu...so now I really have to get it done! Just kind of nervous about it...
Yes, do them all at one time. I had all of mine removed when I was in my early 20's. Slept for several hours afterwards then was outside having a snowball fight with my finance, now ex husband. Mom kept sticking her head out of the door to yell at me to come back in and rest. :rotfl2:
