Dd bought TS3 ds game--very unhappy!

My DH gave this to my DSs for a present at DW. Nobody knew anything about the game other than it was a TS game. My DSs loved the game but were finished with it pretty fast. They have had other games like all the Legos ones and have yet to finish those. I am assuming this game is very easy but my DS6 still likes it and it was from dad which made it all the better. I am sorry about the OP problems.

My dd11 decided to buy the TS3 ds game after seeing all the commercials and watching some online trailers. The big draw for this game is the "Toy Box" mode which is in all the ads. So we went today to Target and she spent the rest of her birthday money on the game. After two hours of playing it she realizes she can't find the toy box mode. I just researched it and it looks like the DS version doesn't have toy box mode!!! This is the main reason she wanted the game!If we'd known there was a difference she wouldn't have bought the ds version--we have a wii at home too. I know Target won't take back opened games. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone ever sold a newly released game to Gamestop? How much of the $30 could she recoup?

You are not going to be able to get your money back from Target -- period. This is enforced by the retail industry, as a whole, in an effort to thwart would-be software pirates.

I'm going to side with Nintendo on this one -- I went to Target, last night and saw "Toy Box Mode" stamped on the shrink-wrap of the Wii version, but saw nothing on the DS game.

The best you can do is take it to GameStop for a credit, or try eBay (you should be able to get 75% of what you paid -- easy).

As for the "Toy Box Mode", as you already learned, is only for the Wii (as well as the other two big gaming consoles).

DS games, as a rule, are stripped-down for ease of play on what is obviously a much smaller system.

This is why I never buy any games without reading some kind of review of it first. There are multiple sites online that review videogames, and it takes all of five minutes to look them up and find out info about a specific game.

Especially with children's games! I can't believe some of the crap ("shovelware") that is pushed out and market to kids. Especially stripped down DS games.

This situation is just sad.

You know, the OP could take this as a learning moment for her daughter and show her how to research reviews online before she buys, instead of just trusting what she sees on TV commercials.

Regardless of "the rules," I would STILL take it back to Target...and I would tell them that this version is not what I expected, and I would like them to allow me to upgrade my DS to the Wii or Nintendo version...and I would bump the whole discussion up at least one level of management. "No? then may I speak with your supervisor, please."

And the clerk and the supervisor would probably tell me to pound sand, but at least it would bring the issue to light...and you just might have someone on a good day willing to work with the customer....and you would know you did everything you could to protect yourself before reselling the game.

I certainly wouldn't eat the loss without some interaction with Target.

In principal I can understand why you don't agree, but in reality, Target will send it back to the manufacturer who is ultimately responsible for not being clear in that there are different (non-equivalent) versions. Target will not take the "hit", the manufacturer will.

I am not too sure about that. I was in retail management for about 7 years and one of the pitfalls for us was video games. We could not RMAC them all we could do was scrap them and write them off when returned

What I personally would do is use a game trading and swapping site like switchplanet or something. If you have any unused games floating around you can swap them with people and get switchbucks. Once you have enough of them you can get the game on another platform by cashing in your bucks.

ever heard of a r4? *whistles innocently*

Around here our Target stores are not at all flexible. If policy states you can only exchange an opened game for the same exact thing, that is all you will get.

It is not Target's fault the wrong game was purchased. They are also not responsible for the way the game is packaged. If you want to complain to someone, complain to the right people, Disney.

Totally agree. Most of the movie based or disney game are not worth the money. They either solve them or get bored and set them aside after a few hours. I've learned that there are games such as any of the lego based games or pokemon or strategy based stuff that they spend hours and years playing. If you read the reviews, do a bit of research, you will find that the dollars you spent on games will result in many, many hours of fun for everyone. If you don't want to read the reviews, just stop in the local game crazy or game stop and talk to the clerks. I find they are a wealth of information on the best games for the money and age.

I think this game is an exception to the movie based game rule. we got it for PS3 and myself, Dh and DD6 have all played for several hours each and really enjoy it. Game Informer gave it 8 out of 10, and I have read several other favorable reviews. I think it is a great game, especially for younger kids.
