Hi! Only a few years off from applying for the DCP! Just have a few general questions :)
How difficult is it to be accepted into the program?
What are the dorms like?
What are the people like?
If you could describe the entire experience in one word, what would it be?
Thanks! Have a magical day! :)

No one but Disney can accurately answer how difficult it is to get in. You will find some got in their first try. Others have tried several times and haven't made it. There are also numbers floating around, but the accuracy of those are questionable since that is something that Disney doesn't release (even claims that it came directly from College Recruiting should be questioned).

The "dorms" are actually apartments. Built for residential purposes. They are probably much better than what you are used to for college housing.

People are diverse. Some are nice. Some not so nice. Working at Disney doesn't change that. But with the number of people who are on the program, it is easy to find people who share similar interests.

For me, the experience would be described as "incredible", but for others, maybe less than that.

You should take time to read the official site (disneycollegeprogram.com) and also their blog (disneyprogramsblog.com) and figure out if it really is something you are able to commit to. Can you take care of yourself? Have you been away from home for a long period of time? Can you handle being yelled at by a guest for something that you had nothing to do with that didn't even occur in your work location? Have you lived with strangers before?

The program is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of hard work. Very hard work. If you go into thinking it is going to be a 5 month vacation, you won't make it till the end.

I have heard rumors that they accept in waves, seniors being the first wave, and freshman being the last. Hopefully that's just a rumor. I'm applying to go down for my second semester of my freshman year this year.

Absolutely no truth to that at all hah.

1. Depends. This time around at traditions we were told that around 40,000 people applied and about 3,600 were accepted.

2. As the pp stated, they are apartment buildings in a community. Security is great, the apartments are wonderful and big, they are very nice, not anything like college dorms. They include bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, and all kitchen supplies. They are also about 6 miles away from Disney.

3. Depends! I've only ran into a few unfriendly people, my roommates are wonderful and most my coworkers have been very kind and a lot of fun. There are still going to be unhappy people however.

4. Amazing!

5. As the pp stated, it's VERY HARD work. I didn't come into it thinking I was going to party all the time so it's be an easy adjustment but it's a very physically demanding job for the most part with more hours that most college kids are use to. You're on your own and have to be responsible. If I had a suggestion, try not to take online courses while you're here. I have to for financial reasons and it really sucks trying to get a ton of work done on top of regular work on top of fun on top of sleep.

6. Good luck, I'm here now and I love it. :)

1. At the housing meeting I attended for this program there was a sign that stated that 14,000 students per year are accepted into the program. There are no statistics for how many people apply but the general consensus is around 35,000 people. You can judge for yourself how hard it is from those numbers.

2. The apartments are actually pretty nice, yes even Vista Way. The only apartment I would say that you should avoid is a 3br apartment because there is only one refrigerator for 6 people. There are lots of stupid rules and a curfew for those from a different complex. The facilities are pretty good and well kept. They all have at least one pool and fitness room. Vista Way has the best location in my opinion, but they are all in really good places.

3. It all depends on who gets into the program with you.

4. Unique

Don't go into this without thinking long and hard about it. It's a big commitment and a fantastic opportunity as long as you are prepared.

I heard about it being difficult to get into the program when I applied but I didn't really think much about it. I just wanted to get accepted so bad & was so excited about it & I think that helped me a lot with the process to stay focused & confident. :) I can't remember exact numbers but there were 100s of people at my community college who applied & interviewed & a handful of us got chosen.

Just as everyone has said, there are no dorms but apartments. I stayed at Vista Way in a 3 bedroom & enjoyed it. I had no experience living in a dorm or going away to college so nothing to compare it with. They are all a short distance to the parks & Downtown Disney is closer.

The people are very diverse, which I loved. No matter where you live or work on the program, there will be plenty of different people to hang out with. But it's just like anywhere else, there will be positive & negative people.

Choosing one word to describe my entire experience is impossible. But I'd say it was fun, hard work at times & unforgettable (in a good way!). You will make friends for life & that is the best part!

:)
