Hello everyone! My name is Paige, and I was hoping for a bit of clarification.
I did the Fall advantage program in 2012 as custodial and I want to go back for Spring Advantage in 2014. However, I can only go if my role is either Concierge or Hospitality. I am a hospitality business major without any real experience in the field. I know how extremely competitive and rare these roles are to get, and I just want to know my chances.

Also, how does anyone in these roles like it? :earsboy:

Thanks!:rotfl:

I had zero hospitality or hotel experience and was offered Concierge. You definitely need a solid interview and it is one of the smaller roles, but it's not impossible.

If you get accepted for the program, but not in Concierge or in Hospitality, you can always try and get switched into that role if you can provide documentation from the school. It's not the norm for the Company to always make the switch, but it never hurts to ask. Good luck!

To be honest, these roles are extremely competitive because so many schools will only offer credit to their hospitality majors if they get one of these roles. If you do not have any previous hospitality experience (I would include any customer service type job in this too) it will be hard to get into. Although if you are a hospitality major you may have a better chance.

As others have said you will need a really solid interview and I would only mark Hospitality and Concierge as "High Interest" when you apply. If those are the only roles you can take, there is no point in selecting others. (Ask your school about Vacation Planning, as that is very similar to Concierge)

I was offered Concierge this time around, but I actually will be doing a PI in Guest Relations. You could probably draw on your guest service experience from doing custodial. I would recommend highlighting your problem solving skills and passion for great guest service. It is also helpful to use examples from companies outside of Disney.

I was asked during the interview:

to share a time when I encountered a difficult guest.
What I think the duties of Concierge are
Why I am interested in concierge
What I expect when I stay at a Disney hotel.
