DCL Vacation Insurance?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth getting the vacation insurance added to the package.

Has anyone ever actually used it? If so, was it a smooth transaction or is it a hassle?

Does this insurance cover the cost of the onboard medical facility?

Thanks for helping decide if it's worth it or if I should just save my money.

Thanks!
;) :D ,

Katherine,

Although there are some variations of opinion, most cruisers will tell you that some form of travel insurance is pretty important. My opinion is that it is a must. Whether you use DCL (we do - it is easier) or another option (there are lots of other providers out there) it is a minimal cost compared to what you'd lose if after the 60 day mark you are not able to go on the cruise.

Also, it is something better booked earlier than later. For instance, my mother had quite a major accident a couple of weeks ago. At this stage it doesn't look like that will prevent us from cruising, she should be well along in her recovery at that time. BUT if I hadn't already purchased insurance that, or anything resulting from that situation, that prevented us from cruising could have been excluded.

People get sick, accidents happen, airlines are delayed, and the list goes on. Each policy is a little different so you want to check out what it covers carefully.

...I would get it. We did the DCL one, although I'm sure there are less expensive ones out there. It's worth it to us. I have a history of pancreatitis and I can suffer an attack at any time.

We had to reschedule our last cruise twice because I was in the hospital and unable to go. After we rebooked it, the 2nd date kept getting nearer and we still couldn't go (was still hooked up to an IV). So, we had to make a 3rd date and, luckily, then we could go.

We are DVC members, so we were dealing with points instead of money, but we had to keep paying the point exchange fee and the new cruise dates were always more points.

If you have to be airlifted from the ship or one of the islands, it can cost upward of $30,000!!! You never know what's going to happen. We feel, better safe than sorry!
