Hi all - I’m taking my mom on a 3-night Disney cruise in May. While I have been before and have stopped off in Nassau, I reboarded the ship pretty quickly. I’m happy to stay on the ship the whole day and save my money for other things, but I know that she’ll really want to experience the city in some form. What, if any, more historical-based tours would you recommend? I’ve looked at several options, but want to make sure it’s (a) through Disney and (b) offers a neat perspective of the city. She’s a social studies teacher, so the more historical, the better :)

Also, I’d LOVE for it to only take a couple of hours, since I know I’ll want as much pool time as possible!

There are three port excursions that I might recommend. The first one is explore Nassau which includes an interesting visit to the Nassau caves. We thought that the tour guide for that was particularly good, but this was several years ago. You might also think about the chocolate tour at Graycliff hotel, which is very interesting, you get a tour of the beautiful hotel, and you get to make some nice chocolates. The other tour you might like is Ardastra Gardens which is a pretty little zoo, and is followed by a tour of Nassau. None of these would be more than three hours or so. I have seen some positive reviews of the land and sea tour which includes a cruise around part of new providence island. But, I have not experienced that one myself.

Even Social Studies teachers need a change of pace once in a while! I bet she would enjoy the Greycliff Hotel Factory Tour. A fun time for all and only takes a couple of hours to boot!

Our first cruise we did the Forts and Junkanoo tour. As a Social Studies teacher myself, I really enjoyed it. We got to learn about a unique celebration and the history of the forts and the Queen's staircase. Our tour guide also pointed out important spots and sights as we drove around the island. Our most recent cruise we did the Graycliff chocolate factory. It was a lot of fun making (and eating) the chocolate, but there was no tour of the hotel and no history really involved.
