Yes we do get lovely warm weather in Ottawa. :cool1: But right now we have a lot of snow and it is -13 celcius. :scared1::scared1: Which is probably why I am seriously considering the new Disney resort in Hawai'i!:rotfl:

Fortunately we don't get the snow, but cold and rain are nearly constant in winter. We are soooooo looking forward to Hawaii next december! Let me know if you actually go!

Kim,
Are you really booked into Aulani? We are thinking of December 25th to January 4th 2011. ;) I don't know very much about Aulani, but how can you go wrong with Disney? It looks beautiful! :lovestruc

We have a room booked from Dec 25-31st. :beach: I agree...it's the quality we like so much and a new resort to boot!! Sooooo excited! :banana:I've never been to Oahu, so all the tourist stops will be new for me. DH spent a few months there while in the military 20+ years ago, so he's the tour guide!

We are so excited too- and we haven't even booked it. The airfare from Ottawa is a challenge right now. Travelling on Christmas Day was the cheapest. Sounds like a great way to finish off Christmas day by winding up in Hawai'i! :cool1:

Kim Hawaii in December is going to be ebautiful...un fortunately with Dan's work load and me teaching, it seems like it is going to be summer 2012.

Dan and I went to Maui for our honeymoon and it was amazing. This Hawaii trip will be around our 5th anniversary so that will be nice. Are you going Dec 2011 or 2012?

and we have to buy this time!!!! I'm sure we'll need advice..... consider yourself hired!

I know...rwally, although with all this freezing weather and snow we might actually be prepared as I have had to buy more winter things than usual!

I am going to need hiking boots or trail sneakers. Anyone have a pair they like (you guys now me and my shoes lol!)

You're right about Christmas day...I figured the same thing might apply for New Year's Eve! And the 330 day window will be here soon; only Hawaiian air has listed prices so far...

I wear Keens....I have a wee bit of a Keen obsession. I bought a pair of low-topped (tennis shoe height) hiking boots. They seem to fit my arch in the right place, but my husband doesn't like them as much. I think his last pair were Merrells. Again, REI has the best selection!

I just checked our cruise. Only cat 5 and up are available.

Christi

Really? :scared1: I looked 2 days ago and there were still 7a's. Must be filling up fast! Maybe my cat 9 gty will grow up to be a verandah! :wizard:(drrrreeeeeaaaaammmminnnng)

Oh Kim by the way I am renting the same lens I used in the Med..a Canon 16-35 L for my rebel, now if I only had a 50 D to go along with it:rotfl:

I think filters are going to be important. I read the glaciers are hard to photograph. I read the filter is the key.

i am going to look at the Keens.Thanks.

I emailed the staff at borrowlenses.com prior to the cruise to bounce some ideas off them and they were more than happy to give some advice. Might want to see what they recommend for filters. You could probably rent the 50D.....

Ohh that's where I rent from too...what did they recommend? If you don't mind me asking.

This was for last summer. I had about 3 lenses I was looking at, and I emailed them about what I was going to be taking pics of. They led me to the 16-35, but it sounds as if mine was a bit different. I have the eos t1i, and rented the ef 16-35 mark II usm. I didn't consult them about filters, but talked to a local guy and use a polarizing filter on my 55-250 in hopes to reduce water glare. I didn't really care for the coloring it added to the photos. I had to do a lot of tweaking on the computer to get rid of some of the artificiallity I feel ended up in the pics. That's why I'm certainly interested in finding out more info about what filters they would recommend. I'll probably email closer to the cruise, and will share what I learn. Have you looked at their used equipment for sale page? Drool!

Hi Fellow Cruisers.

I just wanted to share some info for those looking to stay at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver the rate I just got. $179.00 per night. this includes - 2 for 1 buffet breakfast .
It is a Non Cancellable - Non Refundable rate. It is the lowest I have seen and I have been watching for a while. My dates are aug 21-23 two night.
