"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

Am I, or should I say, are we the only ones who think the shore excursions are very expensive? We already SPLURGED on the cabin for our DH's, but seriously I was choking on the excursions.

We have decided to do it ourselves. We are either going to do private or rent a vehicle and be part of Alaska. I priced out so much stuff last night and mapped it (actually till 2a.m. this morning).

What I want to know is if anyone out there that has been to Alaska has a recommendation for "Have to see/do this"

We have children from 2 to 15 to incorporate in our planning as well.

I completely agree! While I'm sure much of it is worth it, I was kind of used to an "expensive" excursion being $100 per person....seems that's "cheap" for this cruise lol.

We also have an almost-2 year old (she'll be 21 months when we sail) to factor in, and I can't believe they charge the 3-9 fare for them. Seriously. I have to pay like $150 for her to go whale watching! But I know she will love it. Just wish they had a toddler rate.

My friend Vicki is leaving today! She's got me tagged in all of her FB reports so I'm anxious to see what she liked. I also told her to tell me (a) what she packed that she couldn't live without, (b) what she wished she had brought and (c) what she thought she would need but rarely used. I'll share any info!

Yep, it's official......we're out. I just couldn't get our flight arrangements to work out.

So sad...was really looking forward to seeing Alaska. I rebooked for next Aug (2012), just for the heck of it.....we'll see what happens.

Anyway, everyone have a great cruise...can't wait to hear all about it! Have fun!

:guilty:
Sorry you had to cancel.

I'm going!!!!!!!!! I wish I could update you on our plans but we can't do any reservations for excursions and palo etc until June 6th argh!!! By that time everything will be taken....this is our first Disney cruise. We also have a GTY cabin and don't have a room number as of yet.

We are staying at the Sheraton Wall center three nights before we leave on the boat. We are hoping to do the Cap bridge, china town, and Granville Island, and of course Stanley Park. We have a 10 and 8 year old and they are so excited!

:goodvibes
Welcome!

In other news - you people with toddlers:
Target has all of their Easter dress clothes on the clearance rack right now - got Isabelle her formal for $14! It's adorable - pink silk top with rosette, lots of tulle. It looks like a little princess dress. Our Target had from about 12 months to 4T. Also had some in white, and some less formal looking blue flowered dresses. There were some adorable little sweater vest combo outfits for little boys.

And for all of you camera people out there:
We need to get a back up memory card and a card reader for the trip, because I know my hubby will take a millioon pics. If we have this and his laptop, what size memory card do we need? I was looking at an 8 gig. Maybe 2 8 gig, in addition to the one we have (which I think is 4? not sure) and the memory on the camera? He likes to take big pictures but I was thinking if we download them every night that would be ok. Tell me if I am way off the mark.

Getting excited. Gold members book in 7 days! I still need to get airfare and we still need to book the hotel in Vancouver, but otherwise things are in motion. Have all of the baby's stuff ready to go, need a few little things for me and hubby - who now tells me he wants a tux. Like I need more stuff to panic about.

Please check out this thread about debarkation at Vancouver.

Thanks for the info Jim.

I guess we will be hanging out after breakfast...where do we eat last. Did you book Disney tranfers I think it might be easier. We don't want a repeat of Barcelona....although having that private bus for us was kind of cool.:thumbsup2 and did you book the post excursion through concierge?

Can't wait to read the blogs and trip reports this week.:cool1::cool1:

Look what I found!!!!

ok...week one is in the books.....down almost 9 lbs and DH 7 lbs...haha I beat him....enough to get us through week 2

Good job!!! It's going to be a rough three weeks for me, next week in Orlando- for work not fun..... then my mom's 90th! We have family coming in and lots of partying!!!

Change in plans. I did not know that I had to take a ferry back and forth to the airport in Ketchikan to p/u and drop off a rental car. So we cancelled the rental car. The blue line bus (eff. today) will now run on weekends. That was great news. I wanted to take the children out to the Totem Bright State Park. I did finalize my Skagway tour. We rented cars and I downloaded this guide that goes mile by mile with sights, photo ops, trails, ect. in to the Yukon.
