"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

Our ship leaves tomorrow from LA to start it's trip north:banana::banana::banana:

our info is correct. As we are 4 in a 6A GTY it could be a long time before we get a cabin assignment.

Not sure at all what we'll do on that score yet!

Tough to say. It's a weekday morning but there are commuters. With the new passes, those folks should fly through though. I don't think we are planning for anything worse than normal. Typically going IN to Canada is a breeze, it's coming back that takes forever.

We are debating parking near the cruise terminal versus perhaps doing a long term parking at the light rail, maybe in Richmond, and riding in from there. We will see. Lots of time to figure that part out. We did Amtrak last November so will probably drive this time, depending on the parking options.

I'd love to see what folks find. I've not found anything comparable for what we are looking at for enough less for me to feel comfortable. I'd rather not prepay and be out entirely if there is some odd delay or whatever unless it's a rather substantial savings. We are still quite a ways away from excursion booking but it's a huge chunk of change for what we want to do so...we will see.

I have the same peeve. Both with the DDP and the excursions! And then the kicker is depsite adult prices, neither way enough to zipline!

For those staying at cheap Seattle Airport Motels...be careful, there is some icky icky stuff out there. Some perfectly ok things too but...just sayin'

If the plan is to drive (versus Amtrak) people might be better off heading north and doing like an Embassy Suite or Hampton Inn, just north of the city for a decent rate and early start with no airport ick and nice and close to the highway (while missing that morning commute traffic!). For Amtrak folks, either downtown or Airport would be best.

Part of me is bummed about the Seattle departure but I don't want to wait another year and frankly, sailing between Seattle and Vancouver is of no interest, I've done that lots on a variety of boats so we feel our time is better spent out of Vancouver. Or at least I justify not waiting a year by telling myself that!

No problem on the room number for FE. Just let me know when you get it. :thumbsup2 Also thanks for letting me know about the border crossing the day of the cuise. It sounds like it shouldn't be a problem on the way there. We will just give ourselves plenty of time. Is there a particular border crossing that may be better than another when entering Canada on a Tues mid morning

Thanks,
Vicki

There is a bit electronic billboard on the highway approaching Bellingham that tells what the wait times are at 3 different border crossings.

Where exactly are you in the PNW?

kim

Just outside Seattle, on the North End. Long term airport parking is a thought as well for us but I need to map it all out and see what makes the most sense. We will be driving home on disembark day.

We almost always do Blaine on the way up but that's more habit than anything. We do check times on the way and before we go though and will re-route. On the return though we seem to skip Blaine more often than not and do one of the others.

And I think it's either on WDOT or somewhere, I know we've checked it from the car before.

Jimmy was due at the hotel today by 4. Well the weather made him late. So I didn't get to see him. He is keeping a very low profile. I was hoping he was going to jump on stage and sing. But no, tomorrow he has a benefit concert at the Navy museum. He has a fishing trip planned for the day, but if the weather doesn't get any better I wouldn't go. The waves were huge today!!

Stopping by and checking in. Just finished booking hotel (had to move) in seattle. Also booked a harley tour in Ketchican. The guys will love renting the bikes and driving. We are trying to rent a van and ride out to Emeralk Lake and maybe the yukon.

Booked our Palo brunch, but we are going to do Palo dinner in the cabin. No spa treatments here.

I am getting excited about doing Alaska on our own. I realy love the planning portion of the trip.

Well the PIF date has passed. Maybe now folks will be coming around.

That sounds like so much fun! I will pray that pixie dust keeps the rain gods away for your biking!

I hope you survived the storms last night. It was the first night in a week that we did not have storms during the night and those pesky tornado warnings. :scared1: When you see him give him a big smooch from me!:lmao::rotfl2:

The bike tour sounds like fun. I am hoping people will start posting more!:surfweb:

We didn't get much, but Alabama really got it bad!!

I just saw Jimmy in the restaurant!!

Back now from our 8 days at WDW and can now focus on the cruise. All of the sudden it seems so close. Lots to do between now and then.
