DCL Has Their Protocol Out!!!

We went to Antigua earlier this summer. We had to have the PCR test within 7 days, so a bit longer window.
When I made the online appt. at CVS, I stated the reason for the test was travel. We live in MN and were never charged.
We had the results in less than 24 hours.

People don't get the vaccine was never meant to completely stop you from getting Covid, it just severely lessens your chance of a serious reaction to getting it. My guess is all 7 of these cases are low severity, if not completely asymptomatic, which is exactly what the vaccine was intended to do. This is the exact reason people just need to get vaccinated. The CDC and others will care less and less about COVID if death and hospitalization rates are not problematic.

This all started because a passenger was experiencing symptoms. I'm not debating effectiveness. My point was it is easily spreading on ships and contact tracing is warranted.

So to cruise with DCL out of a US port, that means many Canadians are SOL right now. Glad we aren't sailing til August 2022 and that it's in Europe (where AZ and mixing and matching have been going on). *edit to add: it doesn't actually say which vaccines DCL says are ok, unless I missed it somewhere (but read it pretty thoroughly I think)*

For the protocol DCL annonced for the Disney Dream cruises, DCL doesn't recognize the vaccinations of anyone "arriving from outside the US" for the cruise. So anyone who lives outside the US. Doesn't matter what the vaccines are. Even if a Canadian has both doses Pfizer DCL will treat them as unvaccinated, per that protocol.

Hopefully that will change in the future.

Are they limiting you though? Isn't the reservation simply to give everyone a "chance" and then you simply book extra time once on the ship.

I understand what you are saying but I feel like a better description is just "limited capacity".

My understand from reading the info posted by DCL is that you are only allowed 1.5 hrs the first day and 2.5 hrs the others for kids clubs. No mention of adding extra time.

I understand what you are saying but I feel like a better description is just "limited capacity".

Limited time = yes, 1.5 hours on embarkation day and 2.5 hours on other days. Booking more time onboard depends on availability. So while there may be opportunity for more time, it may or may not align for consecutive times or other plans.

So I guess limited capacity and limited duration.

What DCl doing is very similar to MSC and they’ve been successfully sailing for a year. The only difference is everyone gets a rapid test before sailing and msc pays for it. Unvaccinated have to have a Covid test 72 hours before which is more costly with the short turn around time. The 5 days is much easier.

To anyone that’s interested you probably could do it much cheaper than the 98.00 dollars. Most of my free weekly Covid tests I have had come back in 24 hours and this was through CVS.

There is a place near WDW that does same day PCR results, but they charge 279. They have a 24 hour turn around for around 150. It might be worth looking into if you are visiting WDW before the cruise.

I checked with JetBlue but they were very vague about whether or not we had to be tested before boarding the plane because technically the Bahamas is an international destination, but we didn’t fly there, we cruised there, and I’m confused about that. Even the CDC guidelines are confusing on that issue. I know that if you’re flying internationally into the United States you do have to get tested, but what about after a cruise to the Bahamas? If so, I would have to spend one day of my vacation looking for a place to get tested near Disney World. Does anyone know anything about that?

Jet Blue has no way of knowing you visited the Bahamas. You are flying home from Florida. They would only require a test if you were flying home from the Bahamas.

Safe Passage website shows a visual timeline and shows Wednesday Aug 4 as being 5 days out where you can take the PCR test and then if using their Inspire Diagnostics home test kit then needing to mail the test back no later than Aug 5.

We are going to try Walgreens; in FL they offer free PCR drive through test with 1-2 business day turnaround (but not guaranteed on turn time). And videos I watched shows the q-tip only goes a short way in the nostril; not the kind that go to the back of your brain. If doing a PCR test through a Walgreens or other provider then the Safe Passage website shows those results need to be uploaded by Aug 7 (2 days from sail date).

Also if you are sailing Aug 9 then the Safe Passage website shows the last day to order their Inspire home test kit is tomorrow Aug 1 (8 days from sail date).

My understanding is the CDC requires a negative PCR test if you are flying to the US from a foreign country, but does not apply to arriving via other types of transportation, just air travel.

Interesting. My take away is that it seems very dangerous for Disney to allow unvaccinated people on the cruises.

People who are vaccinated may get and spread Covid, but they are virtually fully protected from severe disease, hospitalization, and death. It is impossible to eradicate the spread of Covid through testing and masking. It seems to make the most sense to require vaccination and then anyone among the vaccinated population who wishes greater protection can wear an N95 if they wish. Then everyone is protected from severe disease and further protection becomes a choice for which each individual is responsible.

ETA Vaccination plus testing seems to be the best way to go.

Open house is happening on The UK Disney Magic cruises, so there is no reason that it wont happen on The Dream August cruises

Open houses have been reported from the UK cruises. Has DCL specifically stated that there will be no open houses on the Dream?

@Cheburashka I wish people would watch at least ONE of the UK Disney Magic UK Vlogs. So many wrong assumptions about the new Dream procedures and policies , when they basically mirror what The Magic has been doing for the last 4 weeks!!!
