DCL Europe Summer 2022 approaching - what are you doing?

I hate to agree with this but you might be right.
With omicron growing exponentially every day, with projections of cases doubling every 4 weeks in Europe, I don't see how this cruise happens. Unless there's a miracle and cases drop dramatically by March.
The spikes come and go pretty quickly. Last year at this time we had a huge surge and cruises still resumed in the Summer.

Though the European cruises were only available to UK residents, and did not visit any ports- very restricted.

Yes, I only guess cruise industries will be cautious. They do have to make decisions now, because waiting can lead to backlash.

That countries like Spain and Portugal with over 90% vaccination rates impose lockdowns again, is not promising.

I live in a state that has never locked down so I can't relate, but, hopefully, Europe stops doing that so travel can resume.

I believe MSC was cruising in Europe. Wasn't that a decision by DCL? I don't think they were restricted from sailing like they were here.

Oh sorry! Not sure of other lines- thought you were just referring to DCL:)
DCL's first cruises were in Europe and they were cautious. They have been cruising now for six months. I think if they pull out of Europe next year it will be due to the travel restrictions and lack of Americans that want to jump through all the hoops to cruise abroad. Reading the comments on here it does seem like most of the cancellations are for that reason more than for fear of the virus.

Hey gang…..giving this a bump. Anyone hear anything regarding Covid protocols on the DCL eurocruises yet?
They haven't released anything yet, and frankly I don't expect to hear much for quite a while. Anything they say now will be different by the time things re-start. I plan to check back in April for my May cruise.

A small update from The UK Government. They are removing mask mandates and its possible that the test to enter the country and the test 2 days after arrival will also be removed. This is good news for the Northern Europe cruises departing from Dover.

Worth adding though that this is only in England and the rules vary across the UK nations. Scotland still has a mask mandate for example (for anyone on the cruises that stop in Scotland).

I expect a lot of COVID-19 restrictions to be removed in the coming months, things are moving fast. As has been stated, England is easing its restrictions, and only 10 US states currently still have mask and/or vax mandates. I am not a fortune teller, so take that prediction with a grain of salt...but I'd be willing to bet on it.

We are coming up on our June Mediterranean cruise...

Only ten huh? The Vax mandates are new I don't think they existed 6 months ago.

I hope you're right, but you never know with this virus
I remember in the summer of 2021 cases across the US were dramatically down and even the president declared it was virtually over and that July 4th could be declared the end of the pandemic... and then cases went back up in Sept/Oct, and then omicron hit and here we are...but there are signs that things are getting better...
The Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals, published a paper a few days ago indicating the pandemic is on its last throes and that it will be over soon...so, there's hope.

My crystal ball thinks your crystal ball is unduly optimistic. “Land” policies have never transferred well to “sea” policies.

This is very interesting and hopeful indeed. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(22)00100-3/fulltext

I don’t know if this will help but I can give you a general temperature check how the mood is within Europe right now. It seems like most policymakers have excepted the fact that omicron will most likely peak the next few weeks and that Countries can afford high case counts because they have high vaccination rates which is keeping the intensive care load down and in many cases it’s actually falling as case counts go up.

Countries like the UK in Spain are in fact totally reducing any measures such as masking, restrictions etc.Even here in Germany were things have been more restrictive Our governor today announced they actually want to increase the number of people allowed at events etc. Even though numbers are going to continue to go up for a while still.

Generally speaking I see summer being here back to “ new normal” and most experts are saying that especially if you add in the seasonal effect. Even last year cruises began here before the CDC did. As long as you are fully vaxxed and keep that in mind that might change what that actually means. For example for Germany starting today if you have a J&J shot you have to have a booster. So just be prepared that you need to be boosted.
and expect to be tested.

on the testing front there’s a shortage of PCR tests due to the omicron Wave. So now policymakers are saying that PCR test need to be saved for those that are severely ill. And thatAntigen Suffices for screening and other purposes. Greece this week also announced for example they no longer will require PCR test to enter but only antigen. So looking ahead things are moving positively.

One last thought I also had is that if you were traveling with children Europe might actually offer more opportunities with cruising. I believe the US cruise requirements of 5+ Wouldn’t hold here in the EU because many countries haven’t even approved it for that age group yet ( or actually recommended is the better way of saying it so it is approved but many countries are very conservative on recommending it for kids. . And I know some countries for example only require one shot in those age groups. So there is more flexibility when it comes to what might be required for kids. But I’m not the expert on this but I would definitely check

Another perspective from Europe. Ireland is also removing restrictions. Looking forward to summer, the removal of restrictions from various European countries will restore confidence in American tourists booked on European countries. It will make things easier for American tourists to come to European.

However, with the USA still requiring a test to enter, that to me is the biggest barrier to American tourists coming to Europe for the DCL summer season.

Also, while the various countries are removing restrictions, I don't see the cruise lines removing the restrictions. Particularly, the masks indoors and the test to board, I see these remaining for DCL summer season, even if the various countries that DCL will port at are not requiring them.
