DCL DVD...I guess people don't watch?

I have a love/hate thing going with this thread. It's like ... delightfully pointless.

My kids keep me too busy at home, I haven't had time to watch that whole DVD........ especially since it's a surprise for them..... so I do most of my research in this forum, when I get breaks from work

glad i'm not the only one! i requested the DVD, received it, but never even watched it before we went on our first cruise. just read this forum religiously for my planning.

People find out information different ways. Just because you like the DVD doesn't mean others will. There are lots of ways to find things out books, different blogs. If people didn't ask questions ( and sometimes again and again - shorts at dinner LOL) here this page wouldn't exist.

My favorite questions that seem to appear over and over again are:

1. Is it worth sailing on the Wonder? (Like Disney would ever operate anything sub-par)
2. Is it worth it? (concierge, cabana, photo package, etc.) "Worth" is a pretty subjective thing and you're always going to get mixed answers.

We ordered the DVD several times over the years and still have not received one.

We were already committed to DCL, and DCL already had our money at that time so, ......

FWIW, search YouTube for "DCL planning DVD" and lots of videos come up for those interested.

I have NO PROBLEM with any question being asked....especially here and especially since I have asked, and will continue to ask, my share of basic questions.....ok, MORE than my share.

That being said, some of the queries here are really quite clearly explained in the DVD. Is it that people look online for some basic DCL questions and never watch the cruise DVD before ending up here, that they scan the DVD and don't REALLY watch it, or is the DVD more confusing/vague than I see it?

Again, I always encourage newbies to ask as many questions as possible but I AM curious if people watch the DVDs the same way that I do..........

oh, and I also wonder why I received only 1 response t my sail away music query.

I have 2 reasons:

A) The DVD has no search feature that I can perform as the Disboards do

B) this is a lot more convenient as I am reading and typing this on my phone while eating so great blackberry/Peach pancakes at IHOP. If something I read jogs a question I might have, I'm not going to wait until I get home in 3 hours to try to find it on the DVD.

To answer your other question about why nobody answered your question, for me personally, I never even read the question because I don't know anything about the sail away music so I just skipped right over it.

I'm from Canada and have ordered the dvd. sometimes it comes, sometimes it doesn't.
last year I booked cabins for my adult children and their families as xmas surprises. I tried to order two but none came. I called and requested one and although they assured me it would come, nothing did. third times the charm though, finally got one after my third request.
as to the content, I find it a hot mess. having to decide where you want the dvd to go, trying to remember if I have seen that part of it. I think it could be organized better. now jmo, i'm sure some people like the format.

Maybe they will start sending USB flash drives. This DVD thing you mention is so 2000s. At least a blu ray. We are in the era of magic bands. Maybe the OP is upset about change in the first place?

Get with the program. Magic bands don't come with DVDs either. Now thats a whole other story. I wonder what bad questions you may have asked in the past? Now that you are so keen on the DVD. Please so share.

and, if you read carefully, you will see that I stated in my original post that some of the MOST BASIC questions...those about how many restaurants, etc etc...are there and almost everywhere. The DCL site (which I would simply assume people would find before these disboards) gives you ALL the BASIC information. Specific questions are NOT answered, of course: Dining rotations, exact embarkation procedures, parking, etc etc.

JW9DVC: I have already stated that I have asked, and continue to ask, dumb questions. And i have every intention of asking more of them...but NOT ones like "OH! You sit with other people at dinner?!?!? How come?" or "what is pirate night"? THOSE answers are everywhere.....

AGAIN..for those of you who just can't help but jump to conclusions about my snottiness, I have always encouraged folks to ask as many questions as they can dream up. I welcome as many newbies to these boards with that same advice as I can....it's true! Honest to gosh. I simply wondered why it is that people would book an expensive cruise without knowing the basics about their cruise? BASIC!



also, I receive emails regarding the DVDs constantly...too often. remember, Disney DOES have many many many videos available online. It IS time for them to step-up their streaming information strength. BUT, Walmart (and the Disney Store) wouldn't be selling soooooo many DVDs if the technology wasn't being used. A HUGE percentage (the biggest portion) of people DO NOT stream films/shows.

Ah, Disney has it's finger on the pulse of technology. (pushing down real hard on it so they don't even feel the pulse and decide we're dead and they don't have to do more)

not trying to be snotty....if you read my disclaimer (first sentences) you would understand the tone of my question.....

I never thought someone might book a DCL cruise before they learned that a DVD exists or before watching it....just never crossed my mind as a possibility. Who knew? Not me.

I guess I'm not impulsive enough to book a vacation without a degree of over planning.

I didn't think anyone would book a DCL cruise without researching extensively either, but it's apparent by comments you hear onboard that they do. A very small percentage of DCL guests even look at online forums like the DIS or cruise critic and have no idea about pirate night or anything else for that matter.

Our first DCL was in 2010 and we booked it with about 60 days notice (12 day Baltic). I knew there were 3 rotating restaurants and a kids club. That was it. My husband, son, and mother knew even less.... and I gotta say it was our BEST cruise.

Everything was so unexpectant and magical. We were surprised by something new every day and didn't have any disappointing moments where we were expecting something that didn't happen. Other than Palo we didn't miss out on anything either. I've enjoyed the community of the dis boards but am honestly glad we didn't find it until after our first cruise.
