DCL 11/18/03 - St. Maarten
Tuesday morning we woke up in port at St. Maarten. We had a beautiful view of the island from our porthole until the Golden Princess pulled up next to us. The kids slept until 7:30. Mike went up on deck to get us some breakfast before he headed out for his Pinel Island Snorkel Tour at 7:50. I ran to the laundry room to start two loads before Mike left so I didnt have to take the kids with me since William hadnt liked the noise in the laundry room the day before. William asked the name of the other ship when he woke up. When I told him, Kaitlyn said very strongly No! Not there! Princess here on Mickeys boat not on that boat. I had to laugh at her conviction.
I took the kids to breakfast at Topsiders. It was a bit of a challenge and I wished that I had run up there before Mike left to bring back a tray to the room so I could have avoided it. After finishing, we took William to the club then returned to the laundry room to put transfer the clothes to a dryer. I was able to put both loads into one dryer and it ended up taking three runs to completely dry them. I did two runs that morning while we watched a movie in the room. Kaitlyn and I then set out to explore St. Maarten a little bit on our own.
We walked around the market place shopping at the local venders tents. It was already pretty hot that morning and Kaitlyn wanted to return to the ship to go to the pool. I did find one vender who was especially helpful and bought a cute top and skirt for Kaitlyn to wear that night for dinner. I told her that I would be returning that afternoon to let everyone select their own shirts. After picking up the clothes which were not yet dry, we picked up William and changed for the pool. Both kids enjoyed themselves however, the water was very warm. The filled ear was actually more like a hot tub and only a few of the older kids would go into it. We returned to the room to change and wait for Mike to go to lunch. I didnt even think to call room service, which would have made it much easier for us since it was 12:30 before he arrived.
After a quick lunch at Topsiders, all of us went ashore to pick up a few souvenirs. The kids kept asking to go back to the ship so we didnt stay off the ship for long. We spent the afternoon at the almost deserted Mickey pool. William made friends with nine year old Juliet. They played together all afternoon. I managed to get Kaitlyn out of the pool to enjoy an ice cream with sprinkles around 3. She was ready to return to the room to watch a movie after finishing her treat and didnt want to wait for me to talk to Mary. It wasnt long before Kaitlyn was sleeping soundly and I put the clothes back in the dryer to finish up the laundry. It was nice to sit on the window ledge to relax and write while she slept.
The guys arrived in the room at 4 and we were able to convince William to take a break and rest, knowing that we would be up late at the deck party that evening. It was a challenge to dress the kids while they slept, but they were well rested for dinner. We were once again in Animators Palate. The Magic set sail during while we were eating and it wasnt long before we once again felt the rocking. William ate early and went to the OC for Pumbaas PJ Party to play with Goofy. We enjoyed dinner and went to Mickeys Mates and Shutters to browse while waiting for Goofys party to end. We did see him head off for the OC while in Shutters so we knew to hang around since he would be returning in about 20 minutes. Kaitlyn ran up to him when he showed up and he knelt down to give her a hug and pose for a picture.
After picking up William, we headed up to Deck 9 where the music had already started increasing in tempo. The cast members came out and started dancing with the kids on the pool cover. Both Kaitlyn and William loved grooving with everyone. Kaitlyn did a great job with the hand motions. She hadnt been very responsive at the sail away deck party so this was a great sign that she was really enjoying herself. The kids liked wearing their light sticks too. It wasnt long before the Tropicalifragilisticexpialidocious Deck Party was in full swing and Jacqui the cruise director came out to say that it was Mickeys birthday and we had a big surprise for him. The other characters led him out blindfolded to discover the large card that had been in the Atrium during the week for us to sign. The dancing started and the characters livened it up after clearing off the dance floor. The Disney dancers joined them, then did a performance to La Vida Loca. I thought that the smile of the lead female dancer looked familiar but Mike was able to place her. He pointed out that she looked just like Kaitlyns pal Cindy. LOL!
There was a huge buffet with food and deserts on the starboard side of Deck 9. There were ice sculptures and elaborate displays with carved fruit. By the time we got in line, the kids were pretty much zapped. I was amazed to see that it was already 11 pm. After quickly getting a few goodies on my plate, I took William back to the room so that he could relax and go to sleep. He hadnt stopped dancing for nearly an hour so when he stood still it hit him hard. It wasnt difficult for any of us to fall asleep that night.
