DCI 2011 Thread....

for those in Orlando, I will be at DTD AMC with a Blue Stars Jacket on :-)

Thoughts on tonight:

Cadets...nice, but didnt blow me away

Cavies...Should be in first. Music was forgetable, but they marched the heck out of it.

BDevils...I felt were flat. Show didnt connect with many in the theater.

Crown...nice moments, a lot of transition time it felt like.

Bluecoats....ummm...dont remember much except for Creep, which was amazing!

Phantom...should be in top 3. spectacular. stunning. breathless. class.

Boston. really? just do a freakin Les Mis show.

Madison...totally biased. AMAZING! goosebumps. only corps to get LOUD repsonse in the theater.

BK...love the direction and show. hot percussion line. shouldnt have beat Madison.

Spirit...was OK. theme got in the way a little I thought.

TROOOOOOOPERS...nice show. would have liked it more if the freakin kids behind me would have shut up! I turned into "that guy". after the show I turned and said "You have 2 option, so make a choice. You can shut up during the shows so we can all enjoy them, or you can move far away from here and if I hear you again, I will be the first one to get the manager to take care of it. This isnt a football game. Quit talking on your phone and enjoy the show. THANKS!"

my rankings:
Cavies
Cadets
Phantom
Crown
BDevils
Bluecoats
Madison
SCV
Boston

Sure glad you had your judges card revoked.. :lmao:

Remember who you got your accommodations from... :thumbsup2

Congrats to the Cadets! I hope the rumors of Cadets2 coming to DCA are true. love it when things get shaken up a little bit in the activity.

Another great year for DCI and one of the strongest top 12 I can remember in a great while.

May just have to buy the DVDs this year.

HAHAHA

Actually a BAC fan, so dont get me wrong. Just personally didnt like what they gave the kids to perform. Thought they marched a great show.

Just got back from Indy and an amazing finals week! We attended I & E for Open Class on Wednesday, followed by the kick off party at Union Station that evening. We were in the stadium all day/evening on Thursday and Friday. We attended the Friends of DCI breakfast on Saturday morning followed by the parade.

Finals night was breathtaking. PR put it all out on the field last night. Madison had me in tears all 3 nights. What a beautiful, moving show they put on.

Thankfully The Cadets won, as they should.

I am so grateful I was able to attend this amazing event from start to finish. Now to go slip on my TEAM ANGELS t-shirt and crawl into bed.

You got the Angel shirt? I got the other one go figure! :lmao:

I went to the breakfast also, darn we could have met up again. What did you think of it? If they consider the same thing next year (Outdoor venue) I think it would be better to have burgers and dogs after the parade.

I sincerly home the Scouts got the licensing thing worked out, cuz that show was honestly the crowd favorite of the year, and it needs to be on the DVD and CD's!

I may actually buy the video this year. I did see parts of everyone show I enjoyed.

I watched the scores on the internet, and I couldn't help but reminisce to 33 years ago when I stood on the field for the last time as a competitive member. Brought back so many memories, all of them great! If judgement day comes and God offers me 1 year to live over again, I would absolutely pick 1978, and I would so do everything the same way! This in no way diminishes my children being born at all, but in a way that is when their book was written, because it was in North Star that met the love of my life. Ok, enough of that mushy stuff... DRUM CORPS ROCKS, electronics and all! (ok, but still NO STRINGS, PLEASE!)

Mike, see you in a couple days! Checking in at BLT on Tuesday, 2 bdr, TPV :thumbsup2

Rick, we can chat when ya get here!

But tell those Boston people to back off! They are trying to get their hooks in me! :lmao: But honestly had the best time at the BAC host hotel, what a great group of people! Treated me like family!

Just thinking of this still gets me, it was the same story all three nights! 2 minute standing ovation!

And in case you're not familiar with the program its a tribute to the 10th anniversairy of 9/11 and the towers have just collapsed. The balad is the sorrow the city felt, followed by the closer, when the city lifts its spirit back up!

I wasn't fond of the outside venue for breakfast. The fact that there was NO COFFEE turned me off right there. We overheard a few of the elderly people complaining of the lack of bathroom facilities and tables in the shade. The food wasn't memorable, either.

I did enjoy the parade. I did hear complaints about it being a "losers parade" and that there were some kids that didn't want to do it. I wonder if it would have been better to have it on Wednesday evening after the workers leave the downtown area?

We had breakfast at our hotel on Wed. morning with the writer of the Scout's musical score. He told us the issue is with ONE performer who won't sign off. He also spent time with us explaining the scoring rubric and was interested in our thoughts about the TOC shows and what we, as fans, enjoyed most. It was a real pleasure to speak with him. We all learned a lot.

Too bad we didn't get to hook up again this year! Hopefully next year for sure! We are heading to Florida in early October for F&W! Can't wait!

:) Well, you are family. Once in a drum corps, ANY drum corps there is an instant bond. Fans included. I know many people that never marched a step, but love the activity very much, they are treated the same way. Drum corps is not only an activity, but a way of life, a very good, clean, and safe way of life.

So, you joining them on tour next year? :lmao:

Just printing my boarding passes...see ya in a day. :thumbsup2

Saturday night we were all sitting around the restaurant and patio area enjoying a few adult beverages. Being the BAC host hotel a lot of kids were comming back to meet their parents...Schlepping sleeping bags, pillows, suit cases.... everything they owned. One boy about 17 came up and asked how to get to the lobby. We told him just walk through the restaurant and the lobby was on the other side. He said "No sir, I cant do that" When I asked why he said "Because sir, I have manners"

And that my firends, is what drum corps is all about! :thumbsup2

Coach, my husband and myself never marched nor did our kids (other than marching band in high school) and we love the activity! We got introduced to DCI by a friend who took us to our first show in Murfreesboro in 2000. Ever since then we were hooked. My husband is hearing impaired, so this is one activity he can actually HEAR and enjoy. Both my sons' had friends that marched with Cavies and Madison.

Have a safe and happy trip, Coach!

We were at the Staybridge, which had a lot of Crown kids on Sunday morning, We got a chance to thank some of them for the wonderful show we enjoyed multiple times this summer. He THANKED US, the fans for being there for them! We also were addressed as, "Sir" and Ma'm when we held the door or elevator for them. I am so impressed with the caliber of the kids in corps.

Really? :rotfl2: Cuz I remember it! It was called "Breakfast Cassarole" and it was scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, and chedder cheese all mixed together. I told the girl "No thanks, I stopped marching 30 years ago!" :thumbsup2
