DCA new gates, Golden Gate coming down, Edited OP 7-26 with new blog post

I think there are two main reasons they chose the Hyperion Bridge.

1) the street lamps are attractive and iconic in that they are reminiscent of early Hollywood. And sadly it's one of the few places left in LA where they still remain from that time.

2) it was featured in Who Framed Roger Rabbit which makes it all the more appropriate.

I have to a agree that the GGB has much more of that wow factor and California feel but I think Hyperion was a good second choice.

Not that I would ever expect this. The GGB should be used to replace the blue bridge between the Pacific Wharf area and San Fransisco Street.

Although being large and red it may really disrupt some nice site lines.

Just a note - they took the walls down yesterday and the new entrance is now open. It looks very retro and really great. I loved it. Will upload some pics soon as I can.

As much as I love the GCB isn't it being replaced mainly because of time period? I think the GCB opened in the late 30s as part of the new deal, like 15 years or so after Disney arrived in California, which is the time period the DCA remodel is going after.

The "San Francisco Street?" DCA still has this? with the purple victorian house? sorry if this is a silly question. haven't been back to DCA in many years.

Yes, it's changed a little because they built LM across the street, but it's still there. Restrooms are in the north end and the Embarcadero Store at the south end sells Little Mermaid merchandise now.

DCA is aiming at 20's-30's when Walt and Roy came to LA and started the Disney Film Company. It's not the period of the whole park just for the entrance(Beuna Vista street). So it will look like LA not CA in general.

The Disney Brothers Cartoon studio was formed in 1923(hence the official Disney fan club is called D23) It was change to the Walt Disney Productions in 1929 and became the Walt Disney Company in the 80's.

Right, like I said the Golden Gate Bridge was built after Disney arrived...so it won't fit in the entrance for two reasons, time period and location....

Is anyone there today who saw what's happening with the golden gate bridge. Are there wall around the base or scrims on the towers?

oh I LOVE the new enterance and cannot wait to see it next week!!!

Is it just me, or is the new entrance basically a copy of Hollywood Studios at WDW?

I can't wait to see it also, but I do think replacing one bridge with another is odd, but curious to see the change when we come in December:thumbsup2

Where am I;)

Yes and no. This has already been discussed, but maybe you missed it.

Hollywood Studios' entrance is a copy of the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles (in the Fairfax District of L.A.), which closed in 1972. Pan Pacific is where parts of "Xanadu" were filmed. It was basically next door to the famous Farmers Market and right by CBS and all that.

So WDW/Hollywood Studios copied the Pan Pacific Auditorium with its entrance. Now California Adventure is getting its own version of the Pan Pacific Auditorium entrance, so really, California Adventure is copying something that was already in its own home state, in keeping with the California theme. But because this Pan Pacific Aud. style was introduced at DHS in Orlando first, before being introduced at DCA, everyone now thinks that DCA is copying Hollywood Studios, when, in actuality, DCA is copying something that was part of California!:rotfl2:

Well, that certainly clears up why this Florida boy thought it was a copy:) Sorry to rehash old info, it was new to me:lmao:

Oh, no worries at all!:goodvibes Lots of topics get rehashed on this board. It's the nature of discussion boards. I'm sure the subject will come up again in the future, many times, as all the changes at DCA take shape! I just wasn't sure if you had missed any of the previous discussions and may have not known what the back story on the new DCA entrance was. At a glance, it definitely would look like DCA was copying DHS without that story, so I can totally see why everyone thinks that.

I really love the look from the sketches. I can't wait until it's all said and done.
