I remember hearing somewhere that they're changing the name of DCA, which is another reason the CALIFORNIA letters are coming down. Does anyone know what it's going to be called? Or did I dream this haha. Thanks!

Speaking of the letters....are they still up? Anyone know when they are coming down?

I don't think they are changing the name, just the focus. The letters and the entrance were supposed to represent stepping into a post card of CA and that "Theme" is going away. Rather than a snapshot of Modern CA, it is becoming an idealized version of CA from Walt's era (Think Main St. USA except representing an old time romanticized version of Hollywood / LA)

If a name change is going to happen, I thought I heard 'Walt' being added to the title (i.e. Walt Disney's California Adventure) but I don't think that's true.

Yes, the letters are still there. We did the tour on Saturday through the building by the grape vines (I apologize for my description-I can't remember what it's called), and they have pictures and design history for 5 or 6 of the new rides/shows coming to DCA, including the new entrance. The pictures show it's going to look like the entrance to Hollywood Studios in WDW (the 50's style teal and metal looking entrance).

The lagoon is empty, and they're putting in the mechanics for the new nighttime show based around the Wonderful World of Color.

In a couple of early articles in SoCal papers about the DCA makeover, there was some talk about a possible name change down the road. As far as I know, Disney is not officially saying that they are changing the name (or we would all know about it). In fact, they may even be saying that they are NOT changing the name. My personal feeling/hunch is that somewhere down the road they WILL change the name in some way. I think that maybe once the transformaton gets underway and they see how the park eases into the transition with all the new additions and everything, they will tweak the name a bit to make it fit better and make it more appealing to a broader audience. It may be something as simple and subtle as Walt Disney's California Adventure. It could become something as cheesy as Hollywood Adventure! There are pretty significant things happening in DCA over the next few years. I think it has been said that even the park mascot (in printed material and photos) will change from Grizzly Peak to something new. So given what happened with EuroDisney and Disney-MGM Studios, I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that a few years from now we may see a name change on some level. I think they just don't have official 'plans' to change the name at this moment.

I don't know for sure, but since they are making the emphasis on Walt and the history of the Disney studios, wouldn't it be cool if they renamed it "Yesterland" or "Yesterday Land" like the long-lost part of the original Disneyland? That would fun for those of us obsessed with Disney history.......

There's really only one reason the letters are coming down - they need to physically push the entrance to the park out to the level of the letters or even in front of them to achieve the "hollywood main street" look they are going for. That means the gates will be further out in the plaza.

I wouldn't read too much into it right now.
