DCA Expansion/Update

I think Cars is a great movie and I love that they are making a "land" out of it, I just think it should be called Radiator Springs instead of Carsland. Carsland just sounds uninspired. I love CA and I love the name of it but I guess I'm in the minority.

I think they should re-theme the whole DCA and call it "Pixar Studios Backlot" Then move all the pixar rides there. Move the Nemo submarines into the lagoon. We already have a whole Bugs Life Area. Then build Radiator Springs "Carsland :scared:". I mean it's already 75% pixar anyway! Just gotta re-theme Soaring, screaming, Tower and GRR. Oh also instead of building the Little mermaid ride just move Buzz Lightyear there. Put the little mermaid ride where nemo is and bring back rocket rods where Buzz lightyear is!

I'm with ya on that! I like the name California Adventure. It's better than "Disney MGM Studios" or the current "Disney Hollywood Studios"... in Florida! :rotfl:

Carsland is marginal I agree and Hollywoodland might sound generic too but actually it is kinda cool as it is a true reference to the history of Hollywood. The Hollywood sign originally said "Hollywoodland" to promote a new neighborhood being built in the foothills below it. Later the "land" was dropped from the sign and the letters "Hollywood" remained and became the icon that it is today.

It's California Adventure and atleast this name has some basis in facts so I don't mind it. Plus, I always felt like the current name and how ToT is at the end of the backlot it was too much of a WDW ripoff.

Perhaps the problem with naming the area Radiator Springs is that it won't really be just a desert setting like the town in the film? Naming it Carsland allows the Imagineers more latitude in doing different themes and settings whithin in the Carsland area.

Seriously, I think it is ridiculous how so many people keep suggesting they move the submarines to CA because of the Pixar thing as if they can just wheel it over there in a jiffy. C'mon, why not just move Tom sawyer Island to Main Street or scoot the Matterhorn over to Critter Country??

The Submarines ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE. The Autopia area is the roof of a giant water-filled showroom where the subs have been roaming since the late 1950s. To move the subs would just mean destroying it and building a new one somewhere else and it would cost untold amounts of money.

So again, rides cannot be moved because of "themeing" issues. Maybe a Buzz Lightyear type ride could be moved but rides like the Subs, Pirates, Space, Indy, Big Thunder, etc. can't and won't ever be moved.

Suggestions are great and such a big part of this site as we all like to talk and speculate about the parks but if it is not possible and will never happen it more or less becomes a "fantasy" suggestion and not something they would actually consider.

I just had to rant as I have read this "sub moving" suggestion mentioned rather casually as if they could just do that easily or at all for that matter many, many times lately!

OK leave the subs there and turn it into a Little mermaid ride and build a New better Nemo ride in DCA. :thumbsup2

Yes, I actually like your idea, Sy. They will never do all of that but I think it is a great idea. And don't get me wrong, everyone, I like "Cars," the movie, BUT I don't see the same staying power or 'timeless classic' element written all over it like with the Toy Story movies and even Nemo. And if there is a Carsland, there HAS to be a Toy Story and Monsterland! I don't know how many people will be clamoring for multiple "Cars" sequels over the years or fondly reminiscing about the movie in decades to come. I guess I am saying I just don't think it is as memorable as some of the other Pixar movies. No, I do not have kids, although my friends with sons say that their sons were "totally disinterested" in "Cars," and much preferred "Monsters Inc." And I don't like Monsters Inc as much as Toy Story but I think it is a much better concept for a 'land' in general than Cars. The rides in Carsland sound great, but I bet you anything that ten years after they get Carsland (or whatever it is called) up and running, Disney will be changing the theme of the land again so that it is not all Cars stuff - UNLESS it is an all-Pixar park. If they took Sy's suggestion and made it all Pixar, then it would be perfect to have a "Carsland" or whatever the heck it is going to be. But I mean, what next? Ratland?

And California Adventure, while it has some good rides, did not do well as a 'concept park.' That is proven. People did not take to it the way Disney hoped, which is why they have to revamp it. The name is not catchy. All the newspaper articles in California about how badly DCA is doing have said that we residents of California have trouble with the idea of going to a park here that has replicas of the real things that you can find in our same state. And that is the popular opinion. Now if we had Florida Adventure out here, that would make more sense. Put DCA in Florida. But when you have seen the real Golden Gate Bridge, it is tough to warm to the 'fake' one in DCA IF you have lived in California your entire life, as have I. It will also be tough to get excited over seeing a 'fake' Hollywood Boulevard when I can walk to the real thing, just ten minutes away! But I realize Disney is catering to the tourists from other states and countries and not us in CA, which is probably wise because the bulk of the business likely comes from outside of CA. Anyway, they are eventually changing the name of the park - we know that - and if they took Sy's idea, I think it would be a good idea. But I still like Disney's Paradise Pier, even though they will never use that.

I don't think Disney MGM or Disney Hollywood are good names, either! I agree!

Oh and another thing. Why does the DLR get stuck with POS rides like Mulholland Madness while the Disneyland Paris gets rides like Crush's Coaster?

Well they're going to change the Mulholland Madness anyway, so that doesn't really matter. But it does suck that the other Parks have better rides than our DCA. It seems unfair knowing that DLR is the FIRST of Disney! Oh well, nothing we can really do though, right?

id say, build a space like hotel and call it Axiom. :)

best idea ever! :D

I think that would be a great idea too. I think anything with a 'space' theme or an 'underwater' theme would always be popular. Those are two concepts that people never tire of. They could do an ocean-themed hotel and call it the Triton.

Why aren't we all working for Disney with these great ideas? We missed our true calling!

OOO. An underwater theme hotel ! I would love it;)

Whoa there! DLR has some clunker rides like MM (which resort does not have some clunkers?) but IMHO it far surpasses the ride selection at DLRP in both quantity and quality.

DLRP might have gotten Crush's Coaster but DLR got TSMM - a much better ride IMO. :)

Yes! The Triton sounds good (Atlantis is the name of another hotel so that's why I didn't choose it). It could be an overall nautical/water theme that encompassed several movies or rides in decoration. If they wanted to incorporate the Disney magic into it, they could decorate it with murals and statues of all the Disney 'ocean' characters - all the Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo characters, and maybe even some Pirates stuff (since they are always at sea). Even put little monuments to all the boat rides there - the Jungle Cruise, especially. Add in some of the vintage stuff like 20,000 leagues Under the Sea. I think it would be great. They will never use my idea but it sounds great!

Haha! That's so funny! We should definitely work for Disney with our ideas!

Yesss, cousin. that would be awsome!

If I worked for Disney, I would most definitely consider and try to use your idea Sherry E! The Triton sounds great. The ideas you have about the murals and statues sounds soo pretty ! But if it would be called the Triton, would it be a little weird to see Finding Nemo since the hotel would be based upon the Little Mermaid? But I do get where you are coming from about all the water movies. I still think it's a great idea anyway :thumbsup2

Well, let's just say that the Triton is a 'working title' for the hotel, to be changed at a later date when a better name pops up! I like that name for a hotel, but I see what you mean about it being exclusive to The Little Mermaid! I am trying to think of good oceanic names for a hotel. Atlantis is the name of another hotel, so that wouldn't work. Poseidon is obviously not a good name for a hotel because it is too associated with disaster. Maybe The Neptune would be a good name but it doesn't sound as regal as The Triton. Oh, what the heck - as long as Disney gets on it and starts building a 'sea-themed' hotel, that would be a good start, whatever it is called! Just as long as it has murals and statues of all the Disney ocean/nautical characters around, I will be happy. Now someone at Disney has to hop to it and get this plan underway!

I've always wanted to go to Atlantis.. but no you're right that wouldn't work because it already exists :) I don't like The Neptune as much as I love The Triton. The Triton just sounds perfect! You have great ideas, Sherry E :) I wonder how we would go about calling them and inputing these ideas  :goodvibes
