DC Metro help needed - Please?

Little bennet is a fine campground. I used to camp there in HS. To get to Shady Grove, just hop on 270 to 370. It might take 15-20 minutes. Especially if you're heading out early in the morning. I lived in Germantown/Gaithersburg MD for the better part of my life, and I can't say it's ever taken me 2 hours to get downtown...even for Redskins Games or Concerts.

Thank you! If I can get into the city in under 90 minutes I will be thrilled.

Parking is free at Metro stations on weekends and you shouldn't have problems finding parking, at least in the morning.

Parking is only free at the Metro stations on Sundays, so you will have to pay on Saturday. The good news is that it's not too expensive - roughly $4-5 for the whole day per car.

Are you sure? Is that a recent change - like in the last month? We have never paid to park on a Saturday and the Metro website still states parking is free on weekends on Federal Holidays.......

I'm purchasing all of the tickets so we have them in advance. The Metro office was very helpful and will sell us only what we need so we can keep the costs down. Once I know who is going on what tour, we can purchase enough to cover the costs.

We plan on only doing a few of the monuments, as the boys are young and can only take so much "boring stuff" as they would say.

That's great if you can get tickets for Metro in advance, it will save you a lot of time and hassle. Same for Ford Theater, I would suggest you get times later in the day so you're not pressed for time getting there. To get back from Ford Theater you can just walk to Metro Center and go straight back from there. You'll only be a few blocks from the station so pretty easy.

While you're at the Lincoln Memorial, you can easily drop by the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, they're right there. The boys might really enjoy the Korean. Then either coming or going you can walk through the WWII Memorial, which is at the opposite end of the reflecting pool from the Lincoln. The Jefferson Memorial is nice and gives nice views but is over to the side and will add quite a bit to your walk.

Sounds like you've done a nice job planning this trip! As long as the weather holds I think you'll be fine!
