Daytrip to LA from DL? Transportation suggestion?

Hi hi,
Not sure if I am posting this in the right place. Hopefully I am.
Need some help...

We're going to DL soon and are thinking about taking a day to do a quick tour in LA (going to the DSF, chinese theater, etc.). The problem is we won't have a car.
Does anybody have a suggestion on the best way to do that?
Is there a shuttle service? or a car service? I don't want to spend a boat load of $ for it. It just seems silly to be so close and not take a quick trip there.

You can take the Mertolink, which is about a mile and half cab ride from the corner of DLR. ON the Metrolink you can get to Union Station. From there the Subway goes up to Hollywood Blvd.

Not the simplest way but the cheapest.

Btw the Metrolink round trip fare covers the Red Line subway fare as well. Not so for Amtrak. Metrolink schedules here: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/schedules/html.php?id=761
