We are planning on spending a night at either Ormond Beach or Daytona Beach this will be late October after Bikeoberfest (sp). We are thinking of either The Comfort Inn and Suites on Alantic Ave or Quality Inn Ocean Palms on Alantic Ave??? Has anyone tried any of these>>> What are they like?

Also what is there to do in Daytona Beach we are trying to decide on either a half day after we spend the night or a full day??? We have a 16 and 13 year old with us also.

One more question please??? Is this a safe area?? During the day and at night?? Is it OK to walk the boardwalk at night?? I am sorry if this is a stupid question but I am a little paranoid of area's I don't know. :earseek:

Thanks

We are owners of the Ocean Walk Resort in Daytona ( a stones throw from the boardwalk) with 3 teenage girls. I wasnt sure about letting them walk the boardwalk at first-but it really is ok during evening hours. We give the girls 2 way radios( which makes me feel safer ) but I do make them come back to the hotel once things start "closing " down. Their are lots of people walking the beach and boardwalk @ night, but like I said once the stores and amusements shut down I wouldnt suggest being down there because the only people left strolling around are homeless people ( some leave you alone-some can be annoying ). Their is a new shopping area with stores-restaurants a movies right next to the Ocean Walk that can keep you busy during the evening,if you want to find all the things to do in Daytona I would suggest looking into several Daytona Beach websites- they are full of info. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

I would not consider either one of your choices. You can do MUCH better. The Comfort Inn and suites is very run down terrible pool and just not a nice property at all.

I would do some reading on Epinions or Trip Advisor. My Grandparents recently moved from Daytona Beach and we visited quite often. Have a look at Holiday Inn Daytona Beach 930 North Atlantic Ave. Thats my first choice. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/DABFL
The Ocean Walk Resort 300 N Atlantic Ave is a great property too. I believe it is a Fairfield property.

As far as areas to see in Daytona make sure you make a trip to the Riverfront Marketplace and also Ocean Walk Shoppes. Here are links to check it out:
Riverfront Marketplace
300 S - 300 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach

Ocean Walk Shoppes at Ocean Walk Village
250 N. Atlantic Ave.
Daytona Beach

Its a neat town. My favorite restaurant by far for great food, service and fun is The Inlet Harbor http://www.inletharbor.com/

Have a great trip~!

Another vote for Oceanwalk resort. In my opinion it is the best I have seen or been to on the beach. They have so much to do just at the hotel itself and is close to the pier. By far my favorite.

Thanks everyone, JessicaR. That hotel does look very nice but a little pricey for us I would like to stay around the $100 US per night but 200 is a little high but that you for the info on the other 2 I recommended I will continue to look.

Oceanwalk....wow it is gorgeous can I live there. The website says there is a min stay we only want one night. Is this possible???

Thanks

Wow I had no idea it was pricing that high! I took a look over at Expedia for a late date in Oct. There is a new property that was just bought and renovated. Usd to be a Hilton, that I loved! Great location and it looks beautiful. They had it for $127.00 on Expedia and on thier website even lower depending on your date. Here is a link. :)

I'm heading down to Daytona in February for the race, I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on Boardwalk Inn and Suites. It was the closest I could get to the Boardwalk for the special weekend.

Another hotel you may want to look into is Adam's Mark Hotel, I've heard good reviews on this hopefully its within your budget.

We stayed in the boardwalk inn and suites in 2003. My opinon is that it was sort of disgusting. If they clean the outside corridors, get an ice machine that is clean, and remove some funiture I would stay here for the right price. There are also no balconies, if that makes a difference to you. Ground floor has a patio. Here is my opinion on this hotel along with someone else who stayed there in this post that i linked. also my review of the oceanwalk resort.

Thanks for your post I hadn't thought of doing a search on Daytona hotels on the Disney Board! Their website makes it look like such a nice place, we are going down for the race so I'm sure we will have issues with parking but unfortunately we are stuck with this hotel, rooms book early and are SO expensive. We are supposed to have a top floor oceanfront room, I didn't realize they didn't have balconies that is important to me. Do they have a parking garage or valet parking? We decided to stay here due to it being close to the Boardwalk Shoppes/restaurants. The first time we went down we stayed at Ocean Palms Quality Inn, ALL I can say is NEVER again, the doors didn't even shut tight and we were afraid to use the shower. I wish we could have afforded the Ocean Walk, but it was $500 a night!!

Expensive is right! Actually I'd call it highway robbery - it should be illegal! We're going the weekend before which is the start of Speedweek. We didn't realize it at the time and couldn't figure out why we couldn't find a hotel for under $200 a night. We're staying at Thunderbird Beach - their prices don't rise until the Monday and that's the day we're leaving. I've checked out TripAdvisor and the reviews are totally opposite. One says it's a dump, the next says it's great, dump, great and so on through all the reviews. So I don't know what to think, but I definitely will not pay $300 a night for a motel that at any other time of the year, except Bikeweek, is $30 a night. So dive or not, I guess that's where we'll be staying - one good thing is that we got tickets to the Bud Shootout, so that'll be worth having to stay in a not-so-nice motel. Good luck with your hotel!

Oh you are going to the Budshoot, ENJOY! We will be in Disney for 5 days and then Daytona for 5 days. Thankfully we won't be at the hotel for very long, I ended up going with them because of the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. I know they just renovated due to the hurricanes so we will see when we get there. I don't know how they justify charging so much during race week but its such an inconvenience to drive in from Orlando with traffic. :earboy2:

Boardwalk inn and suites does have a very tiny parking garage. TINY. They do have valet parking only because they have to double park cars when the hotel is busy, cant just get in and leave, it is really ridiculous. Needless to say Have a great time!!!! My main gripe was the disgusting walkways, the room wasn't too bad if they replace some of the furniture and the ice machine. We had a suite which was comfortable because we had our own room and the kids slept in the living room. We didn't have any parking problems because it was not too busy when we were there. Websites can be deceiving and it actually doesn't look bad from the road either. Just once you get in the walkway to go to your room. Also the elevator is soooooooooooooo slow. Have a great time!

Someone mentioned looking in to the Adam's Mark...well, the Adam's Mark is no more...it's a Hilton now...after the last of the hurricanes, the place shut down for complete renovations...If it's not open yet, it is supposed to be soon.

The Boardwalk Area is fairly safe...like one poster said, once things start shutting down, it's a good time to go ahead and call it a night. I believe the shops on the Boardwalk close before the ones at Ocean Walk. The two are connected, and it's easy to walk along the beachside between them.

The beachside of Daytona is probably one of the safest places in the city...but when traveling about Daytona proper -- the 'burbs are plenty safe -- it's always good to be cautious. Like most places in the state, the city has a large transient population, especially for a city its size. I suppose if I were homeless, I'd rather live in Florida then Minnesota.

Aside from Ocean Walk, the once closed water park across the street is reopening this spring...Daytona Lagoon is the name, I believe.

That is great to hear that the waterpark is opening again. I believe it used to be called Adventure's Landing. Can't wait for Daytona Lagoon to open, we love water parks.

We stayed at Daytona for a night last summer. The first hotel that we booked-Ocean Sands or something, was a joke, we had to leave there. We ended up at the Adams Mark. We tried for Ocean Walk, but it was booked and they suggested we go next door. These are the only two places I would stay if I went back there. Which I probably won't.
