Okay..I'm new to watching..so I'm not all that familiar with the relationships as they went back many years ago. But ..Steve..this is "Patch"..correct?. First off..what's with the guy's eye?...and secondly...I know I'm gonna get 50 lashes with the wet noodle here, because it seems so many of you seem to love him. But he seems kind of "dated". Like he is stuck in a time warp or something. Obviously..he's no spring chicken..(neither am I for that matter)..but the "baby..stuf..."..on the commercial..it really is kind of funny. Again..without knowing the history of the character..I'm just observing how it comes off to a new viewer. Okay...let me have it...but remember..I'm new...so cut me some slack..perhaps I will come to adore him as much as the rest of you..just haven't seen that yet.

of my Steve...most of what the others said is his "story"...if you go way back to 1985 when he joined, he was originally cast as a short term player who was gonna wreck some havoc for Bo & Hope, being hired by Victor to do so. Know, for a little more background...Steve and Bo were in the merchant marines together and were BEST friends. They both fell in love with the same woman, Britta and Bo found Steve & Britta in a, well, let's say bed
, an fight ensued and Bo is the reason Steve lost his eye. This caused a rift in the friendship of course, and Bo was not happy to see Steve. Steve terrorized Hope to get to Bo. After awhile, Steve was hired to terrorize Kayla and scare her. This is when the character of Kayla (recast with MBE) and she returned to Salem. She was always afraid of him. Steve/Patch became a fan favorite, so they changed him from being the term player who was a meanie. Steve always seemed to be saving Kayla from something as opposed to scaring her, and she started having feelings towards him, and realized he was a man with a past that made him act like he did. She saw the good in him. They had one of the greatest love stories on daytime TV. They went through a lot together, with Steve always trying to push her away, but he loved her almost from the start. When others would tell her to give up on him, she would defend him and go against their wishes. Hope soon realized that he had a heart too and she and Steve became great friends. Bo eventually turned around too and renewed his best friend status. "Baby" is a term he has always used for Sweetness. Lot's of his old mannerisms, sayings, actions and stuff are being noted by the new writer and they are keeping him true to his character. YouTube or Ohlookabird. Their whole story is available on there. I've been watching it from the beginning again and enjoying reliving it. I've been a fan since 86 with them, and was thrilled when they returned. I could not follow them to other soaps, they were S&K to me. And of course when he "died" it broke my heart, so I quit watching for a few years, but have been watching Days again for 10 or so years now.
S&K in real life are great friends, you can see this in how they act with each other, with such ease and familiarlity.
No noodle lashing for you, your opionion counts! He is "dated"...LOL....he and I share a birth year and exactly to a day our birthdays are apart, so I'm "dated" right along with him.

I would take Steve out of all them too. Loved the scenes with Bo and Steve. I remember them as Best Friends too.
but he sure acts like he could be Bonnie's spawn
