By now, if you've read my other trip report installments, you already know who we are, so I'll skip the intros!
Friday, April 20th--staying at The Swan!
This morning was like every other morning, we took our good old time getting up and out the door. Today is our disignated MGM day! I've been wanting to go here since we arrived! RockNRoller Coaster and the Tower Of Terror our my all time favorites!
On our way over to MGM via the Friendship water taxi (which, by the way is a straight shot over to MGM--no stops to the other Epcot resorts along the way!) we were trying to decide what we would do tomorrow, which is Saturday our last day. If we did Typhoon Lagoon in the AM, then Epcot or MK in the evening, we'd still have our unused Universal Studios tickets. We wondered if I'd be able to sell them at work? They are non-refundable tickets, so we were kind of leaning on going to Universal. That means we'd be left with one unused day on our Disney park hopper tickets! What a dilemma! OR--should we just stay an extra day? What to do, what to do!!
We arrived at MGM and promptly went to RNR Coaster for fast passes. The line already had an hour wait! YIKES!
From here we made our lunch reservations at 50's Prime Time. We were given a return time of 12:20. Then, some nice guy walked up and asked my DH if he wanted a fast pass to Tower Of Terror which was ready now! I said, "Take it! We'll wait for you in the gift shop!" So that's exactly what he did! Like I had to pull his arm!
After his free fall on the TOT, we rode the Great Movie Ride, with no wait! I'm afraid for this attraction! The past three trips, there's been no line for this at all! I hope they don't do away with it! But I know that when the interest starts to dwindle, they close up shop and open something else in it's place! There were rumors about this very thing last year, but when I asked a CM about it, she told me it was nothing but an internet rumor. Time will tell.
By now it was RNR Coaster fast pass time! It's so great to walk by all the people standing in the regular line! Makes me feel like I'm a celebrity with front of the line preferential treatment! RNR was awesome, as usual! That first take off is so exhilarating! Gotta love it!
Now it's lunch time! We've come to love 50's Prime Time! Even with our Priority Seating, we had to wait about 10 minutes before they were calling us! It's funny to look around at all the knick-knacks that were once so popular and now seem so garish! My kids have a hard time believing that there was ever such a thing as black and white television!
Our waiter was cousin Tim. He made himself at home with us, sat down besides DS#2 and asked us why we forgot to write! Didn't we remember him? He gave us several recommendations, took our drink order, and gave us time to look over the menu. My appetite was still not too big, and neither was DS#2, who had gotten sick with a stomach virus 2 days before. I thought about splitting the Turkey Sandwich with him, but we both ordered our own. I also got the chocolate malt, which was outstaning as always! DS#1 got the chicken tenders off the kids menu, and DH got Mom's Pot Roast, which he said was excellent!
I had a hard time finishing one half of my sandwhich. DS#2 all of a sudden lost his appetite. He ate very little. By now, our lack of appetites was noticed by our waiter, cousin Tim.
Cousin Tim says, very loudly for all to hear "Well, well, well, look who's wasting Mom's food! She cooks and bakes all day in the kitchen over a hot stove, Dad works hard in the factory to put food on the table and we waste it!" He took my fork, loaded it with some of the sliced turkey that I had removed from my sandwich and encouraged everyone in our area of the restaurant to make like an airplane and "help princess finish her lunch!" Yes! I was fed a fork full of turkey breast by cousin Tim! Gave everyone in our area a good laugh! Someone was even clapping! HA HA HA! It always seems a little funnier when it's happening to someone else! But I got a good laugh out of it all! It's what I've come to expect at 50's Prime Time! It's all part of the atmosphere! I wish they had a similar restaurant here in Virginia!
He asked us if we wanted doggy bags, but with the whole day in front of us, and no fridge back in our hotel room, we declined. Cousin Tim informed us it was a wise choice. He didn't want us getting food poisoning! Neither did I!
I really wanted to ride TOT, but the boys didn't! We still can't figure out how two parents that love thrill rides, have two kids that don't! So, with the fast passes we picked up before lunch, DH and I rode TOT while the kids waited at the bottom where you can view your picture. I guess we should be thankful they ride RNR Coaster, although they'll only ride it once a trip! We gave the two fast passes that would've been for the boys to a guy who was about to get his own! He was very thankful!
There's a shop on Sunset Blvd. that sells awesome frozen slurpee like drinks in an array of flavors. I think the name of the store used to be The Beverly Sunset, but I can't recall if it has the same name or not. Anyway, they sell freshly dipped chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered pretzels, as well as pre-packaged candy such as Skittles, etc. The frozen drink was so good! We got the Orange Pineapple and it was well worth the money! We managed to squeeze in the Sounds Dangerous show starring Drew Carey. What a time waster that turned out to be!
We decided it would be a good time to return to the Grotto Pool for some relaxation and decide where we would be going tonight.
We decided to return to MGM, despite the crowded streets! Fast passes were long gone by now! But we did the Backlot Tour/Catastrophe Canyon and then we checked out the Toy Story Pizza Planet. DH and I split a pizza, DH#2 ate an entire one himself, and DS#1 doesn't eat pizza (how unamerican!) so he was happy with a bag of chips and a big chocolate chip cookie! I've read some nasty things about the pizza here, but it was fresh, hot and really not bad at all!
I took some pictures and we meandered around here and there. I was freezing again! DH mentioned that we should just return to the Swan since mom was mad! I wasn't mad, I was uncomfortable! I felt frozen!!
We caught the last showing of the Indian Jones Stunt Spectacular and returned to the Swan, got back to the room about 8:30. About this time I decided to take my temperature, I knew I was shaking for a reason! (I never go anywhere without children's tylenol and our thermoscan (ear) thermometer!)
I was shocked to see I was 102.7 in the left ear and 102.9 in the right ear! I swiftly changed and got under the covers! For the next two hours I stayed there until I finally warmed up, and the tylenol I had taken had a chance to work it's magic! I haven't had a fever in I don't know how long! DS#2, the one who had the stomach virus was also not feeling good. So the two of us were happy just lounging and watching TV.
Unfortunately, our last day at WDW is upon us. We decided to spend it at Universal Studios (not Islands Of Adventure) because we were afraid that we wouldn't be able to sell our tickets back home and we weren't sure if they ever expired or not. There was nothing listed on the back of the tickets stating whether they were good indefinitley or not!
We knew our 5 day park hoppers with any unused days never expired so we were safe there. (more reason to return to WDW in the future, to use up the last day on the park hoppers!)
And we really knew we shouldn't stay another night, what with the dog in the kennel, and the kids would miss a day of school.
Tomorrow, it's our first venture "off Disney property" since we arrived! It's on to Universal Studios!
