Day trip from OKW to Vero Beach

We are staying at OKW for a few weeks in May and my husband would like us to drive out to Vero Beach to check it out for future stay possibilities.

Is this an easy day trip? We thought we would drive out in the morning. Have lunch there and swim at beach or pool while husband checks out the area golf opportunities, then drive back in the late afternoon.

Will this be easy or the day trip from heck?

it is around 2 hours trip so 4 hours all together - it should not be a problem. While you are where if you should show them your resort identity and tell them you are DVC members the sales people will let you see the rooms. (the beach house is wonderful - much better than OKW or BW - my opinion - this is there GV)

I have my doubts that you will be able to use the pool. In the past, only guests staying at the VB resort have been allowed to use the pool. They have had a LOT of problems with unauthorized use of the pool, and the VB staff has been strict about it. This has caused some hard feelings, but that's the way it's been done.

Too bad, too, because in our opinion VB has the best pool of any of the DVC resorts.

From what I understand, Jimbo is right. We were told by our guide that there is no pool hopping to Vero or HH. At Vero you need a room key to get into the pool area. The gate has one of those scanners. If you are thinking about doing this I would definitely call and ask if it is possible ahead of time. You might not be questioned on the beach but all of the changing facilities are in the pool area.

I agree that it's questionable about whether or not you could use the pool. The beach is open to to the public and there is a public lifeguarded beach right next door as well as another fairly large one with a small boardwalk further down toward Vero proper. (Boardwalk for walking, not in any way a tourist attraction area.)

If you've never seen the Vero Beach area and like to go exploring (some do, some don't) it is quite beautiful to drive south from the Disney resort along A1A.

The drive itself to and from Vero is pretty boring but once you get there it's very nice.

Thank you for the quick feedback and info about pool hopping. I'm glad we know that ahead! Guess DD and I will go shopping while DH checks out the golf.

we did a daytrip to Vero last June. we stopped at the dvc desk, showed our member card and key for OKW. She gave us a pass key so we could use the pool. Went to the beach also.

We had the option to tour the facilities but didn't want to take th time! Great place!

On the way back we stopped at one of the groves, best grapefruit and oranges I ever bought!

We were at OKW Thanksgiving week and drove over to Vero the Friday after. Had no problems using the pool and facilities, just checked in at the desk and they gave us a passkey to use.
