Day before Disney Rituals

For some reason I always get a bit of anxiety before we leave on a vacation so never sleep well the night before we leave. Wonder how common this is? We usually leave on the earliest flight we can get on a Saturday. It is a long flight and is a 3 hour time difference for us. Leaveing Portland, Oregon at 6 am getting into WDW around 6 pm. I try to get off work at noon the day before. Go home start finishing up on the laundry, pack the last minute things we will need, go to the store and get a few snacks to pack and have in our room, make sure all meds, travelers checks, room, car, and airline confirmations are in my carry on. I'll get up before everyone else the morning we leave to do one more load of laundry and clean, empty all garbage cans, unload the dishwasher, and make sure no damp or wet towels are left somewhere. Our next trip is planned for April/May. Can't wait!

Well, my entire family is exactly the same way! We can never sleep the night before we leave! I can't sleep out of pure excitement, but the rest of my family get nervous about flying. I'm nervous at take-off for about thirty seconds, but then my excitement takes over and I'm good to go! I think the anxiety is normal, so long as it wears off when you reach Disney World! :woohoo:

There are 4 of us that drive together every year so to help offset the driving schedule (and because I can't sleep the night before we leave anyway) my DH and I meet a bunch of our disney loving friends at a 24 hour diner in the middle of the night. This helps us stay awake so that we can sleep the first leg of the trip and be wide awake to drive at night. :car:

We hang out, eat and discuss all things disney! Also, because we drive and have (almost) unlimited space, my friends like to hand over lists (and money ;) ) of things that they maybe forgot on their last trip or something for a specific holiday we are going. All in all, it is our little tradition that will probably carry on for Disney trips to come. :grouphug:

Work all day ... to pay for the trip....and then no sleep at night...I'AM TO EXCITED TO SLEEP !!!!!

Yes, I know this is a BIG bump, but I was rereading all of the posts since I last posted, and it is kinda funny to hear all of this planning and stuff because I live about 1-2 hours away from Disney so (as I posted last year) I pack the day before and my grandparents stay at my house (its an hour closer) and then we eat Mickey Mouse shaped waffles and then we are off by 7:30 that morning for DISNEY!!!!
And I hope more people start posting here again! It was interesting

We cross the border and stay at a hotel in Buffalo the day before. We eat dinner out and the kids hang out at the pool.

for dl, we just take Benadryl and knock off early so no one is crabby the next day. we only live an hour from dl so it's no big deal. we usually just stay the day then drive back home.

wdw is more of a vacation. I guess i'll go through my lists of what luggage contains what things, take the dog to the sitters, put dme tags on, make sure theres gas in the car, and knock everyone out with some zzzquil or Benadryl early because our flight out of lax is at 6;30 so we have to leave here by 3 am. last time dd and I went, dh stayed home and we were guests on someone elses vacation. I didn't have so much to do but honestly, the dis boards have made it so easy.

I go to work and try to act normal at home. We never tell the kids until we are leaving the house that morning. We pack what can't be prepacked that night after the kids are in bed. It can be very stressful, freaking out about all the packing to be done but not letting the kids know a thing. I like to do all the laundry and get the house cleaned up also. Can't stand coming back to a dirty house. My mom takes care of the cats so I make sure to tell her everything she needs to know before we go.

The night before we leave for a Disney trip, I always say goodnight to my boys and we say "just think, tomorrow night at this time we will be at the Magic Kingdom!" It's become a ritual each time we go! Also the last thing I do before leaving for Disney is review my packing list one last time as there always seems to be something I forget! If we stay off property, I have an entirely separate list of items to pack vs. staying on property. When we return from our trip, I make sure to add any new items we found that we needed during that trip so that next time, I can pull out the "go to" list and it's all right there for me! OCD I know but it makes me feel better before we head out the door!
