Marlton Mom’s Wilderness lodge trip 9/20 to 9/27/03

Me: Mom, version 40.3 and the conductor for this trip, 4 previous trips
DH: sleeper car, version 46.6, 3 previous trips
DS: caboose, version 4.10. First trip!

Friday 9/26
This was supposed to be Animal Kingdom day but we ditched it due to lack of enthusiasm and energy. I keep calling Animal Kingdom “Animal Planet” after the cable TV network. Does anybody else have this problem or am I just totally senile? We decided that it would be best to do MK one last time for the whole day so DS could get his fill and re-ride all his favorites (Pooh, Small world, Country Bears).

We hadn’t hit Buzz yet so we did that first. I had trouble aiming my gun and it was hard to see the laser dot on the targets so I only scored 160,000 points in spite of memorizing Zurg’s cheat, ahem, I mean “help” site. As a side note, I looked diligently for bad shoes all through out my travels but I didn’t see any and I was very disappointed! I saw some funky sport sneakers hanging out the bottom of the stall next to me on my favorite ride (The Ladies Room) but I didn’t think it would be a good idea to indulge in flash photography at that moment….. Can you imagine having to explain That one? “Honest officer I’m doing this on orders from ZURG!

We crossed over to Fantasy land and did the ones we wanted to do again. I had had my eye on Mickey’s Philharmagic all morning and was waiting for it to open. I asked at the gift shop and the CM said that she had heard that they were trying for an 11:00 am start but not to hold her to that information because you can never be sure since it was in test run mode prior to it’s official opening.

At 11:00 am I noticed some CM’s standing in front of the trash cans that were blocking the entrance. They informed me that they were having trouble with the show but were still trying to fix it and have it open by early afternoon. As it turns out I spent the whole day criss-crossing the park and checking back to see what the status was. Finally when I was ready to leave at 4:00 pm I made one final check and I was told that the attraction would probably be down for awhile. It seems that were having trouble synchronizing everything together even though it had all been synchronized and running earlier in the week. BTW the Philharmagic print and pin that they give you with the fairytale package is beautifully framed and gorgeous to look at.

After Fantasy land we ventured over to Toontown where we only had the energy to do Mickey’s House. I have always said that Mickey is the most elusive major character in the Disney World parks. Of course it’s because he’s busy running the whole shebang and that Michael Eisner guy probably takes up a lot of his time with endless details.

On the whole I thought his house was rather modest in light of all the dough he rakes in. The kitchen was a mess but then what do you expect from a bachelor. I can really see him settling down one day with that Minnie Mouse he’s always hanging around with. She would do him a world of good.

DH and DS just didn’t have any more energy after that so they decided to leave But I dragged them over to Tomorrow land to have one of those 3D crystal images made of DS’s head. DS could not stop fidgeting and the machine was giving us conniptions so we had to re-take the picture many times. I finally bribed DS with the Lollipop of his choice if he would just cooperate as best as he could. He held true to the deal and was thus eligible to pick a lolli that was large enough to be used at the Whispering Canyon Café. We could have paddled a canoe home to Jersey with the size of this thing. Luckily he seems to have forgotten about it and it is now in the witness protection program in Marlton NJ.

I dashed off to Space Mountain for a trip down memory lane. The old gray mare just ain’t what she used to be after the debut of Mission space. Then again Mission Space doesn’t make you feel like you’re going to get your head chopped off like Space Mountain does. S M is one ride where you really do have to keep your appendages inside the car otherwise you’ll be lighter when you leave.

We had dinner at Artists Point on our final night. Again the food was just ok but the service was fancy and very attentive. I found that over all, the service provided in the hotels, restaurants and parks was very attentive with the exception of dinner at Cinderella’s Royal table. Our server there was aloof and rushed and this led to communication problems with the kitchen.

Our best meals as far as being tastiest were at The Rose and Crown in the United Kingdom and the Biergarten in Germany. Those salads and krauts in Germany were so tasty it inspired me to get out my authentic German cook book and whip some up at home.

Our housekeeper at the WL was wonderful. We made sure to tip her every day and we left her a note when we checked out saying how much we appreciated all her hard work and creativity with the towel animals. She even noticed that we were swiping extra towels from the pool for multiple showers and she started leaving them with out having to be asked.

DH was blown away by the meal costs so the next time we do this we plan on staying off site and renting a car. The transportation provided by Mears was not enough of an advantage to justify being trapped on site and having to rely on WDW restaurants and their extremely high prices. We plan on getting most of our meals on the road in Orlando going to and from the parks.

Many of the guide books tell you to save the Magic Kingdom for last if you have small children. Due to the park hours we decided it was best to do MK on our first day. I have to say that this was so much better because DS really got the idea about what Disney is about, simply because we did the MK on his first day in the parks and he could see it from that perspective. From then on no matter where we were he could detect the common theme at any hotel, park or restaurant that we were in. This really kept up his interest and involved him in the experience.

Thank you to all of you who have posted your trip reports and other helpful information on this board. It really fills a need….. a need to know, a need to be entertained and a need to reminisce about what it was like and what it will be again one day.

Sincerely, Marlton Mom

PS. I forgot to tell you what eventually happened to the pygmies living under the bed in the WL. It seems they made the mistake of going on It’s a Small World. The Imagineers thought they were cast members and put them to work. Look for them the next time you float by and maybe you’ll see one or two.

Enjoyed your installment. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find your earlier days (this old gray mare ain't what she used to be either :( ).

Hey, wait...are you posting your reports backwards? I have gone from last to first? I am sooo confused! :o

Yes madam I am, but they did get a little screwed up. I find it easier when they are all lumped togehter and somewhat in order. Enjoy!

It's ok...I started with your last day and then moved to your first day and so on. Great reports, but I would expect no less from a fellow New Jerseyian!

Wonderful and very entertaining reports!! The best I have read yet! Can't wait for our trip to WL in just 4 days. Hope the pygmies don't make a nuisance of themselves in our room, although if our Disney princesses pick up the WL room like they do their rooms at home I imagine that the pygmies will run screaming out the door. :smooth:

I've been reading these boards for a LONG time and your trip reports have to be one of the best series I've every had the pleasure of enjoying.
Great Job! I actually felt like I was there......what a wonderful narrative to click into on those long afternoons at work when things were getting a little dull.
thanks again!!

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for the very amusing trip reports.Well done!

Thank you for sharing your trip with us!! It was great fun reading along. I hope you get to stay on site again and make it to Animal Planet...I mean Animal Kingdom;) , it is a beautiful place! :bitelip:

From one fellow South Jerseyan (Gloucester Township) to another, I really thought your trip reports were so funny. Loved the Ladies Room ride too (always flushing at the wrong time for me too). Those little pygmies had me laughing. Do they only live in Disney World? Thought maybe I saw some on Rt. 73 the other day!;) ;) ;)

Those were PIGmies, a.k.a. traffic cops pirate: trolling for violators. Ticket writing is the new major fund raiser in Evesham township so watch out! They will write you up for any little thing they can find, moving violation or otherwise.

I was wondering if it wasn't the pygmies that were responsible for the surprise flushing toilets..... do ya think?:scratchin

Thanks for the positive comments!

Hi Marlton Mom, that was a really great read. I won't post mine when I return, I'd rather everyone here think ALL

 "Listen here Exit 1", Exit 4 is BEGGING you to post one. It's up to you to write a trip report so that the DIS folks don't think everyone from New Jersey is so wacky.

But really, we South Jersey folks know better, It's something in the wonderful South Jersey Tomatoes that makes us a little nutso. Oops! Look out!! :earseek: here comes a flying Jersey tomato!!

:duck: :duck: :duck: :duck:

That one looks like it came from Exit 16! pirate: Gotta run!

Smoochies,
Marlton Mom :jester:

Okay, now I'm wondering if you're really from Jersey.......any true New Jerseyan would not duck from that tomato, they would catch it and take a big bite :teeth: then they would yell "throw me another" :hyper: :hyper:

I'll be in Blackwood today for a band competition, how's the weather up North :sunny: ?

Marlton Mom... thanks for the great reports!

Oh, and just so you know.. my DH kept saying "Animal Planet" too! :p
