Day 5 - How will we ever leave this place????

I don't know how we're going to do it, but we are going to try to tear ourselves away from this hotel for the majority of the day! Some friends live in Cocoa Beach and wanted us to go spend the day with them and see their new house. We were up at 8:30am today and set out to find the rest of the hidden mickey's on our list. Outside in the back Savannah was a wonderful cast member! She saw us wandering around looking a little lost and offered to help us find the infamous hidden mickey in the vines at the back window. Boy, did we need her help! That was a hard one to find, but definitely one of the best ones we've seen. She was very friendly and talked to us all about the hotel.

At 11am, our friends came to pick us up and we were off to the beach! While I was sad to leave AKL, even for a few hours, I was excited to go to the beach. We checked out their house and had some lunch at another friend's house in a condo right on the beach! Nice place! We spent the afternoon walking along the beach and playing in the surf. Not much in the way of waves today, but that's how whimps like me like it! I did keep applying sun block, but I managed to get burnt pretty badly today. Thank goodness we remembered to pack some aloe! We got back to our hotel at 6pm and decided to get dinner at Mara and bring it back to our room. We sat out on our balcony and watched FOUR giraffes outside our room eating along with some gazelles and ankole cattle. There we were having a nice dinner, sipping wine, enjoying this wonderful view. It was right then that dh turned to me and said he thought this was our best disney trip ever!!! *sigh* I wished I could capture that moment forever!

After dinner we went for a quick swim and *tried* to go into the hot tub. I was too burned to do it. Ouch! We went to the back Savannah again and enjoyed the night vision goggles. We were amazed by how clearly you can see the animals with these goggles. We returned to our room and watched a little TV and went to bed. Another glorious Florida day!

Your trip reports are among the best I've read! I have a weird question: How close are you to the animals and does it smell? (I can't be the only one wondering this, am I???)

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! It's hearing comments like that, that make it all seem worthwhile! I'd say we were about 20ft from the animals. We had such a great view! We could see the giraffes munching on palm trees. We didn't notice any smell at all. I'd like to think it's always like that, but I don't know. I can say that once you close the door to your room, you hear NOTHING from the outside. Sometimes the animals made loud noises but once we came inside, it was silent again. I can't say enough about the place! Do you think you'll stay there?

Hi..We're going to WDW in August, but we are staying offsite in a timeshare for a week and then 2 nights at the Hard Rock.

I would definitely consider the AKL for another trip. Sounds like something the kids would really enjoy. I do have PS for Boma, so we will get to take a look at the hotel.

Again, thanks for the great reports..I got some new tips and hints from you. (If I get an extra 100 hours I'll have to compile all my hints into a file!)
