Cast: Me (28 years old) and DH (27 years old)
Our trip: May 14-21, 2005-our annual May trip
NOTE: This is my first trip report-I am not a writer or English major. I just want to share the feelings that I had on my trip with others. I hope you enjoy!
Day 1: The arrival
This is day 1, Saturday, May 14, 2005. I had woken up with a terrible head cold, but I wasnt going to let this get me down. Hey, I was going to WDW and would be checking into the Yacht Club in 7 hours! Hooray! It was 3:45 AM and I grabbed 2 boxes of Kleenex with lotion and took 2 advil cold and sinus pills, packed up the car and away we went. It was a beautiful early Saturday morning in Chicago, warm temperatures and still air (unusual for us!). We were sure glad to be leaving for sunny FL, though! We dropped our dog off with my parents and had a quick ride to OHare and made it just in time to board our plane. We had an uneventful flight (despite the horrid pressure build up in my sinuses during the descent) and I enjoyed the Disney music they had on the in-flight radio stations. Chim, chim, chiree was stuck in my head ALL DAY. I love seeing the palm trees as we descend into Florida. We arrived on time in Orlando at 10:30 am. The weather was sunny and warm (in the mid 70s)-perfect! The airport was so crowded! We were getting nervous and hoping that this was not an indication of things to come. We met our talkative towncar driver at baggage claim and away we went to the YC!!!! My cold was in full force and I was blowing my nose the whole way to the grocery store and then to the resort. My DH and the towncar driver were engaging in very deep discussions during the whole ride (politics, jobs, etc). My DH has this ability to debate and discuss global issues to people whom he has never met before. I just slouch down in the back seat and sing chim chim chiree in my head. Alright, on with the story .we stop at Publix and get some bottled water, fruit, and snacks and FINALLY we make it to the YC!!!!!!!!!!
At this point, it was about noon and I was excited, but exhausted. I was praying that our room was ready so I could take a little nap before we hit the parks. This was going to be a long day because we had Cirque du Soliel at 9:00 pm. The lobby was fairly empty and there was no line at check in. I go up to the check in desk, give the CM my name and drivers license and she politely tells me, you have a complimentary upgrade to our concierge level, do you want to check in here or up there? I was stunned. I have heard of this happening to other people, but never to us, was this a joke? I did not ask any questions, for fear of her saying that she would put us back in the water view room we had booked (not that this would be bad, but I didnt want to jinx anything). What a magical surprise this was! I decided to check in there and she said our room was ready. How cool. Since DH was sitting with our luggage on one of the couches in the lobby, I couldnt wait to get the keys and tell him the good news. We were all set to go and had fun sticking the key in the elevator door to get to the 5th floor. Wow, miraculously my cold symptoms were clearing up and Disney magic was healing me.
We chilled in the room for a few hours, enjoying our lovely view of Stormalong Bay, and had some snacks and beverages from the lounge. This is probably the best part of the trip. The thought that we will be here at the Yacht Club for 4 nights and then move over to the Boardwalk in the garden suites for 3 nights is pure heaven. I know I would not want to go home. Then I got depressed thinking that we will eventually have to leave so I tried to live in the moment as much as possible.
We watched the new annoying girl channel in the room for a while. Stacey is much better than Kryssa IMO. I still miss the tip for today. We felt rejuvenated, so we started walking to Epcot around 4:00 pm. I absolutely love Epcot in the evening. This is the time when World Showcase is peaking with performers, music, and fun. Its the perfect ambience. We walked around the UK gardens while listening to the British Invasion. I was still in shock phase that I was actually there. I dream about being here every day and now here I am. I wish I could be one of the ducks and live here. Since we needed to leave Epcot to get ready for Cirque by 6:00, I decide that I wanted to try Soarin. Ive been dying to do this since I first heard about it. We pass through the rose path; farmers maze and were finally in future world. We got to the Land and first notice that there are a ton of strollers outside the pavilion. I dont ever remember seeing the Land this crowded before!! Uh, oh! We hold hands and intertwine ourselves with everyone else making a dash downstairs for Soarin only to find that all of the fastpasses were gone for the day and the wait time was 35 minutes. Not bad, but I didnt want to wait, so we decided to ride Living with the Land (15 minute wait) and decided to come back another time for Soarin. I love Living with the Land. We had a very pleasant and happy guide and left the Land and rode Journey into your Imagination. We love this ride and always sing the song while riding because we are usually the only ones on the ride. I love Figment (and Eric Idle, aka Dr. Nigel Channing).
We walk and see more of the Flower and Garden topiaries and then walked back to our room, ate some food in the concierge lounge and got changed for Cirque. We caught the bus to Downtown Disney and got off at the Pleasure Island stop. We arrived at the theatre early and people watched in the theatre. We had a great time people watching and watching the pre-show clowns. They were hysterical. WE LOVED THIS SHOW-we would spend the money and see it again in a heartbeat. I am amazed at the performers, dancers, musicians, and singers in the show. We are definitely going to be incorporating Cirque into our regular Disney trips.
After the show, I was feeling run-down again with this darn cold. I could have used a hot tottie (tea with hard liquor
) about now, but decided to go with the cold medicine and return to the resort. I needed my sleep if I wanted to feel like my normal self again. We caught the bus and return back to our home at the YC for some much needed rest. Those beds at the YC were SO comfortable! I think they are trying to compete with the heavenly beds next door. Tomorrow we are headed to the Grand Floridian spa for the first time for some much needed pampering!
