First of all there are people that visit Disney, travel to Disney, explore Disney, and then there are people like me I DO Disney!!!! I research, I read, and I do! Simple. What your about to read is the 1st day in our 12 day Vacation.
Thursday August 5 Day 2 Days of Travel like waiting on Christmas
The plan was to meet the Moore and Hobb family at 4:30am at a Quik Trip near the highway and here it is 12 midnight and I cant sleep. 1 am, then 2 am come and go. At 3:13am I couldnt take it anymore so I got up showered, brushed my teeth, dressed, made sure all windows and doors were locked, turned off Satellite Dish receivers, and shut down the computers all in 20 minutes. Can U believe? I felt like I was popping ephedras like tic tacs. I dressed my DD4 (milah short for Jamilah) woke DH (David) and made a wake up call to the families. I wasnt surprised to find the Hobbs awake and the Moors asleep. The Moores are slow, but an efficient family plus Tammy is 7 ½ months pregnant with a 4 year old and a 22 month year old so I can understand. Our car was packed last night so we just had to grab our overnight bags and head to Quik Trip.
Of course we are the first ones there. The Hobbs family is right behind, but the Moores didnt show up until 4:50am (I counted on that). Everyone quickly got coffee and we headed toward Atlanta. David did the first leg of driving. I sat in the car thinking of the words that came from my sister -in-law Tonya just 48 hours before, We are not going! I still cant believe it. We have been planning this trip since last Thanksgiving. Their excuses are 1) they had to replace our air conditioning unit for the house, 2) they were in the process of building an extra room on the house and the cost is more than expected, 3) and shes pregnant (about 4 months) still very nauseous. Now, I dont want to sound insensitive, but come on Everything is paid for The 4 day plus Disney hoppers, their portion on the rental house, at least 14 Disney Q & C meal vouchers, the lunch vouchers, US/IOA tickets. Now what Ive heard is that they are having problems but I digress!!!
Back to the 1st Day Drive Considering we had 3 cars with a total of 5 children (all under age 10) we made very good time. Our drive thru Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and finally in Georgia was effortless (not really effortlessly but quick). For those of you who drive, have you ever noticed how beautiful the ride thru Tennessee?
We make it to the Comfort Inn and Suites (in Smyrna about 8 miles from Downtown ATL) around 2 pm. When we arrived their systems were down and only had 1 of the rooms I requested. They upgraded the two rooms to a King Suite plus half off our rate of $36. Yes people you are reading correctly we received a King Suite for $18. Lets just say that the Moores and myself were very pleased!!! The rooms were clean and surrounded around several eating-places and directly off of 285 S on Highland Park. We all ate a Chinese Buffet. That was a bad mistake. Did I mention that my DH David is a Vegetarian so is the Hobbs family. The cook tried to accommodate the vegetarians, but none of us were pleased with the meal. We all live in St. Louis, MO and southern Chinese food is nasty if you ask me. I tried to tell them that I lived in Birmingham, AL for years and I use to look forward to real Chinese food in St. Louis. Tomorrow we are off to Pop Century!!!!
