daVinci surgery recovery time

I had one laparoscopically two years ago. The surgery was on a Thursday morning, I was out of the hospital on Friday morning and went out to dinner on Sunday night. I think I was driving and back to my normal routine by Tuesday or Wednesday. Really, it was no big deal.

I think a recovery time such as yours is not the norm. I'm glad it went so well for you but realistically most take much longer to get back into the swing of things. Maybe age plays a factor as well as how much help you have at home so your' not over-doing it.

I had mine 7 years ago and I was back to work full time (desk job) in two weeks. I think I pushed it because of lack of incision made me think I was great. I felt good but got tired by the end of the day. I think I would take another week or two (looking back) just to heal. I used a tummy pillow too. That helped. But tired was the thing. I'm an idiot and got no sympathy either by coming back too soon

I had mine almost exactly one year ago. I was 54 years old, in pretty good physical shape at the time. It WAS daVinci, which was great, and everything went well. I took off a full 2 weeks, and was glad that I had time to fully recover. For me, 1 week would have been pushing it. I have a desk job, not strenuous, and I work part of the time at home.

For me, any time I've had surgery, I mainly feel very wiped out, tired, and it takes a while to get my stamina back. This was no different.

Maybe if you are younger it would be quicker, and as long as you have no complications, I'd say try going back to work maybe 1/2 days?? I do have 2 friends who went back after a week. For me, that wouldn't have been a good thing.

I had my Davinci surgery on Jan 3, 2012.

I was out for 2 weeks and did ok. I think I should have done half days for part of the 3rd week but I was so bored of being at home.

OP here. I just went back and reread my original post. I should have clarified that my surgery is scheduled the day before Thanksgiving and I'm planning on taking the week after Thanksgiving off. So I'll have 10 days post op before going back to work hopefully. I can take a few more if I have to, and but that's what I'm hoping for.

Had my Da Vince surgery complete hysterectomy yesterday. Went in for surgery about 1230pm and was released at 7:00pm. Very crampy yesterday evening-think bad menstraul cramps. I am taking percocet every 4 hours, little bit of a hard time sleeping as I am not a back sleeper.

Today much lighter crampy feeling, continued on pain reliever every 4 hours. I am up walking around doing a few things,but not over doing it. I think if you felt well enough you could go back in a week. My Dr said with a desk job it probably wouldn't be a problem.

I do think everyone's pain is different, so you should just play it by ear. If you are comfortable go back.

I am 51 and it just doesn't seem as bad as I thought it was going to be. I would say I am not in pain, just uncomfortable.

Just had mine this past Sept. the doctor was going to let me go home that same night, but the nurse never told me i cold. (she told me i was staying the night, thanks for NOT giving me the option )

I had slight pain and i could not sleep on my sides for 2 weeks after that all was fine. I never even took the Percocet that she prescribed, i was fine with just the Motrin.

When i went for the follow up the doctor was very impressed with how well i did, of course she said because i am young yet. (i'm 45)

I had a DaVinci hysterectomy on August 15, 2012. I felt like the recovery was very easy. I think that one week might be pushing it to go back to work even if you can sit a lot. For the first week of recovery, I rested and napped a lot. I took short walks around my house just to get on my feet a little bit. After the first week, my doctor said I could start walking around the neighborhood. Each day I went a little farther and felt my strength quickly come back. I was easily up to a mile within the week. I personally felt the most difficult part of recovery was painful gas that lasted a few weeks. That alone, might make it difficult to go back to work too early : ) That was a lot more painful that the incisions. I would feel achy if I did too much but not very painful after the first couple of days. I only took painkillers for the first 48 hours. I also agree with the other posters that HYSTERSISTERS website has some great information on the surgery and what to expect. Best wishes!

I am betting the nurse wanted to keep you as a patient because you were going to be an easy one . I would have encouraged you to stay too if you were doing so well and were my pt .

Kellydelly even i'm suprised how well i did.

My poor roommate had her surgery run overtime because of complications and then had an extremly rough night.
