David Letterman's confession tonight..

JR6ooo4, being a woman and admiring a man who has always seemingly had and retained many women staff members I had not thought of the other side of the coin. IF men and women who did not attract Dave's attention did not get the same opportunities for promotion that would be a problem.

Guess this is why most companies have such rules about fraternization. Even if there is not favoritism there is the perception of it.

Trouble is that we live in a human world and humans often do things that they should not.

Having the same sort of sense of humor as Dave I can see where some 'normal' folk might see his apologies as a bit less than sincere. When folks like us get embarrassed we joke about things that are not really funny.

I am betting that his wife will have far less to worry about in the future as he will be watched a lot more closely and I think he is genuinely sorry and embarrassed.

FINALLY! An apology to his wife and his staff members tonight. Now I think he's finally completed doing the 'right thing'. Last week's 'confession' wasn't enough, IMHO.

Why do you think it had to be done on air, for your benefit?
Do you really think he hasn't apologized to his wife prior to last night?

Oh & once again he did nothing wrong he is actually the victim!

Nope, not for my benefit but maybe for CBS and/or the staff members. :)

I'm sure he has apologized to his wife or else he's an idiot. :)

In your opinion he did nothing wrong, not in mine. As I already said in this thread, in my opinion a boss shouldn't have sex with his subordinates.

and those were college interns when he started the affairs - we're talking 18-21 year old kids. That is pathetic and bordering on child abuse. At least, it's a misuse of power held over those girls' heads and certainly not fair to the older women who are being looked over for promotion because he slept with the pretty young things.

Where do you get the information that they were college interns?

Two women who have been named (so far) as having sex with David are Stephanie Birkitt and Holly Hester who both were college interns when they started on the show. Stephanie started on the show in 1996 and was born in 1975 so that made her 21 at the time. Holly was also an intern on the show in the early 90s. Not much else I could find on her yet.

& the problem is? No law broken.

He may have not broken the law, and he may be the victim, but I don't really have much sympathy for him. I see him as being a woman-izer.

But that doesn't mean the affairs started when they where 21. It could have happened at any time between then and a few years ago.

IMHO, the statement he made on last week's show was enough for his audience. This sounds like it is boardering on too personal. I'm

He needs to shut up.

Since there is a legal case involved, we will be hearing a lot about this for quite a while.

As I already said in this thread, in my opinion a boss shouldn't have sex with his subordinates.

I agree. Where I work, this is grounds for severe disciplinary action. A boss was fined $30,000 for having an affair with his secretary not too long ago.

The incredibly karmic thing about all this is that Dave has skewered others' sexual escapades and embarrassments for so long, that this whole mess seems awfully hypocritical now . . .:rolleyes1

She's 34 now and started the affair in 1996 - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she was 21 when he started having sex with her. Wouldn't want my college age daughter involved with a 60 year old geeser. Gross! A report out today says he had a private apartment where he took these interns. Another one is coming out with her story today - it kill me that these celebrities think they are above getting caught.

He's got a great career in politics if he wants to now. Have sexual affairs and admit them and make yourself look sympathetic and the victim, future POTUS, David Letterman. :thumbsup2 no doubt about it.

I agree. I certainly wouldn't want to be married to the guy but he did not break any laws.

Please! An 18 y/o is a legal adult. In many states 15 or 16 is the legal age of consent (not that I agree with that). This person was at least 21 when this started. It is far from child abuse. :sad2:

It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Letterman has not been 60 for the past 14 years. :rotfl: Stephanie is 35 and Letterman is 63. If she was 21 when this started, that would have made him 49. I find it funny that you reduced her age but his age stayed the same.

Would I want my 21 y/o sleeping with a 49 y/o? Heck no! But I wouldn't have any control over my 21 y/o because she would be a legal adult.

He didn't break any laws and he didn't use my taxpayer money to fund his affairs. He lacks morals and has poor judgment (is that really a surprise in Hollywood?) but this is between his wife and him. But if there weren't any laws broken, I am not sure what people want done??

oh, I don't mind "hearing" about it. I just felt those apologies needed to be made in person and not to the the public.

Dave is actually gonna get quite a bit of mileage out of this, as he did with others who did the same. That's his job!!! He actually played off that last night and it was quite funny!:)

I don't find it as hypocritical as some because he was doing what he always does - finding the humor in the headlines. He has never claimed to be a role model or told others how to live their life. He is telling jokes. It would be truly hypocritical if he were a politician, religious leader, ...those that we hold to higher standards or put themselves out there as role models on how others should live their lives.

In general, I could care less what he did with his interns as long as they were of age and no laws were broken. If they were of age, they are equally responsible for their actions. None of my business. Again, he is not a role model for myself or family. I appreciate his humor - always have. I understand how and why it doesn't appeal to everyone.

The loser who stole/copied his own girlfriend's personal diaries and such - and then used them to break the law - is the one who truly should be vilified here.

I hope he gets fired - most companies have policies against having relationships with subordinates. And he sure as heck will be sued if anyone got promoted for sleeping with the boss when someone more qualified should have been promoted. His ratings will surge for a short time then plunge like Jon & Kate's. He hasn't been funny for a long, long time anyway.

He's 62 now. In 1996, he was 49. Still a good bit older than the girl but she was of legal age and capable of consent. If the women consented, he's getting caught doing what?

Unless they decide to take him down for office-based sexual harassment in civil court what exactly did he get caught doing? The alleged extortionist is the only one charged with a crime so far.

If Bill Clinton didn't get fired Dave won't either.

There really isn't a legal case against Mr. Letterman - yet. There is a criminal action against the guy who started all this. If he keeps talking he'll keep it alive in ways that concentrate on him and not on the extortionist. If I were Dave's (civil) lawyer I would be telling him to shut up NOW.
