I confess - I'm not familiar with the Dave Matthews Band and their music. However a friend of mine is going to work security at one of their concerts. The supervisor said that of all the concerts at this location (Hershey PA) this concert needs the most security and the crowd is the rowdiest.

Can anyone give me (and my friend) any idea why this would be a rowdy crowd and what he can expect to see as he works security??

bump - I KNOW there are some Dave Matthews Band fans around here! :p

I've been to many a DMB show and have never seen anything to rowdy inside the venue... but in the parking lott thats a different story! But that being sad, it is nothing more than any other concert I've been to! I'm going to see them tommorrow night (7th) I'll report back if I see anything. I think Buffet fans are just as rowdy ( don't flame me I'm also a fellow parrothead). The age groups are just the same also! Teens to 50's.

I LOVE DMB! They have a following similar to Buffet and the Dead (used to) -- lots of folks follow them to several shows. If I recall there may have been a big pushing and shoving incident where a whole mass of people jumped the railings to get better seats... but I thought that happened at MSG last year.... truly, from what I know, these are isolated incidents. DMB members themselves certainly do NOT condone this type of stuff... they are of the, chill out, sit back relax attitude... what you will see, lots of tapers -- people wanting to tape the show... people wanting to take pictures and certainly, people smoking, and not just cigarettes!

I'm going tonight and tomorrow in Mass... I'm very psyched!

ROTFLOL! I was just thinking about rowdy fans and Buffet was the first that came to mind, inthemood. :p

Hmmmm, maybe DM isn't the type of concert that often plays in the arena where they are going to play, that's why they feel that way?? I've only been to one DM concert and I would go again in a heart beat. I don't remember seeing anyone too rowdy at all!!!! People were having a blast, up and dancing, being real friendly -- they weren't real mellow like a James Taylor concert or over the top like a Buffet concert :p - I have no idea why they said that? I took my two, then (older) teenaged stepdaughters and didn't even hesitate for one second. :confused3

Perfect description minmate -- their concerts are definitely like Dead concerts used to be! :)

I think it was two years ago, here in Connecticut, at The Meadows...oh lordy did some damage get done.

I'm talking cars SMASHED, BURNED, tipped over...(nuts, eh?)...in the parking lots.

Must be the same kids that go to UConn. heheh (just kidding!)

INSIDE the venue - different story...tons of kids/beer/um pot (can I say that on DIS?). I remember one year (back when I was in college) I was on the lawn of the Meadows and felt a warm sensation on my leg...the (high) jerk behind me was urinating on my leg! The was the LAST time I EVER sat on the lawn...always had seats after that!

Definetly things are ok inside the venues...never saw much get out of hand...it's the parking lots that get hit mostly.

I forget what show it was - maybe Def Leppord years ago - the lawn of the meadows got completely ripped up - people started throwing pieces of the sod into the pavillion...what gets INTO these people?
