Well, my daughter arrived and is in her new apartment. She's only called twice and once was because I told her her Daddy is moping around the place here. Dog and cat are happy in the new place. She was elected to the graduate student senate buy default. No one else wanted the job from the music school. Says the grocery stores around Kent are terrible and she need to go to Stow to get food. (she's a vegetarian) Sounds like she is being very picky.
Now has nothing to do until next week so she is getting the lay of the land.

Hope she enjoys her new home. Maybe she could try asking around if there are any farmers markets so that she can get some fresh veggies.

I am so sorry! LOL I lived in Michigan, so Ohio and MI are old enemies! I hope she learns to like it!

Tell her welcome to the Buckeye State.

She's probably right about the grocery stores. Her best bet would be to go to somewhere like Solon or Beachwood for vegetarian selections. :)

I'll suggest looking for farmers' markets to her. Wonder if they have one in Kent.

She could go down to Hartville to the Hartville Marketplace. It's a big indoor Amish farmer's market and they have tons of produce there among other things.

Down by the Tallmadge Circle, there is also a grocery store called Seven Grains. They have organic/health food/vegetarian items.

If she wants to go a little farther in Cuyahoga Falls is a little store called Krieger's on Graham Road. They also have health/organic and fresh produce.

If she decides to make weekend trips to Cleveland, she could always go to the West Side Market. It's also a big farmer's market.

Thanks Oogieboogie. Any Japanese or Oriental stores in the area where she can get udon, edamamae, natto and kimchi?

There's a Kreiger's in Kent too...off of Rt. 43...heading away from campus but only about two miles out...

Hmm... I forgot about Krieger's in Kent.

There is a Japanese store on State Rd in Cuyahoga Falls. It's called the Asian Food Store and they have udon, edamame, etc. I go there all the time cause it's close to me. I don't know around Kent though.

There is a lovely healthfood store in Akron called the Mustard Seed. Awesome place. If she decides to hit the Westside Market in Cleveland, it is closed on Thursdays, and Sundays, I think. She should check before she goes up.

I hope she enjoys it up here.

I forgot about the Mustard Seed! It is a bit of a hike from Kent, but worth the drive. She would probably find a lot to her liking there! (It can be a bit pricey sometimes.)

OT, Mal, I didn't know you were from here! For some reason I thought you were from Minnesota or something! Isn't that weird!

OT (same initials!) We love the Mustard Seed even though it is a good 2 1/4 hour drive from here. It is one of my top favs in the state! They have a nice fresh and frozen food supply, but I think just a bit pricey too. But they have an awesome selection!

Even though she goes to Kent (aren't they the Golden Flashes), she will unfortunely have to root for the Ohio State Buckeyes. To your daughter, welcome to Ohio.

Sounds like she's just down the road from us. If she wants to drive a bit further north, the Miles Road Farmer's Market is a neat place to shop. They started out as an open air market that was only open seasonally, but they have grown to a full service year round (enclosed) marketplace. And they have great pies. :)

I expect to see her at next year's Memorial Day picnic too. :bounce:

Welcome to the Buckeye State!!!

Do tell her welcome to Ohio!!!

Tell her welcome to Ohio.

I am a graduate of Kent State.

All the stores listed are good ones. There really isn't much in Kent itself.

I had my first apartment.townhouse in Ohio too. I also got my doggie from there.:) It was a great learning expirience for me and I ma sure it will be for her too.:D

Well if she was at a "real" school like OU she could have all the health food she wanted. :teeth:

Welcome to Ohio!
