Daughter now a resident of Ohio

Believe it or not I bought shelled edamame at Wal*Mart last night! I don't think I'd had any since leaving CA.

I checked to see if there was a Whole Food Market near by but there isn't.

Well if she was at a "real" school like OU she could have all the health food she wanted. :teeth:
Welcome to Ohio!
But OU doesn'thave the Miami String Quartet and Kent does. That is what she is there for. A Masters in performance and conducting. She is a violist.

Kent doesn't have much but if she's willing to drive a little bit, there's plenty of places to get vegetarian items. There's a near/middle east food store on Graham Rd, near Walmart right on the exit of Rt 8.

There's also an Indian grocery store on State Rd in Cuyahoga Falls.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That's right...we have an abundance of Japanese food markets here! NOT!

forgot to add that Ohio has the best tomatoes in the world, if she goes to a real roadside seller. Also awesome corn. Must be the polution...

Nope not Japanese but Athens has a great farmers co-op and lots of wonderful organic farms in the area. There's also a great health food store in Athens, at least there used to be. Oh and can't forget the PawPaw fruit. You know when those kids aren't partying they are the crunchy granola type. LOL

Talking Hands OU has a great music school and are known for their marching band.

But Marching Band isn't for a violist. She moved to Kent because her viola prof of many years is a part of the Miami String Quartet and they moved from Florida International University. She has been Chauncey Patterson's student since she was in 9th grade. Also there is a prof at Cleveland Institute that she wants to take lessons from. He taught her first viola workshop when she was eight and had just started playing viola.

I thought OU was known as a party school. :drinking1 My dad went there. High School band director was an OU grad, and he would bring the OU Band for a show. They were great! Different style from Ohio State. Liked the way OU marches, my band director called it a chair step.

Still not familiar with the strings program at Kent. As for southern Ohio, a lot of the music majors go to Univ. Cincinnati for their College of Conservatory of Music program. My wife has a degree in music education degree from Wright State in Dayton. We'll have to look for the Miami String Quartet stuff in my wife's trade magazines. As I said before welcome your daughter to Ohio.

Oh come on Lisa... we all know which school was *the best* for Marching Bands ;) :p

orvilleair, I have heard wonderful things about the performing arts programs at U of C as well. Many of my friends went there or OSU for music.

Talking Hands... I wish her all the best. Admittedly I am not familiar with Kent (only had one or two friends go there) but I am sure she will do great.
