They should start out with about $180.00 a week before deductions. Unless they want to do a lot of shopping they should be able to make it on what's left but it's liable to be tight. I'm glad my daughter has her National Guards check to help her out!
Encourage them to eat at the cheaper cafeteria for employees, or shop at Publix when a friend goes. Ashleigh isn't bringing her car but she will have her Grandmother & big brother nearby to take her grocery shopping. I see some grandma-mooching in the future! hahahahaha

They sure don't get rich on the program. My daughter managed on the money she made. I was surprised how well she did. I am sure she is better at money managing now.

Just remember it will be several weeks before they get their first paycheck.

Just thought I would let you know that Chatham apartments are closing down for the CP program. Everyone will be staying at Vista.


Chatham is closing down from June to January.

What's Happening: Consolidation of College Program Housing

Why is this Necessary: Not all College Program Housing is needed from June to January to accommodate our incoming arrivals and College Program extensions.

What this Means is: Chatham Square will be closed between June and January. It's Time to Move to Vista!!!

Who will Move to Vista: Chatham square Spring Advantage and previously approved College Program Extensions.

Yes, I've read about this on wdwcpinfo.com.... I have to say that i'm a bit mad about this because of several reasons. 1st is that I've heard that Chatham is much nicer than vista. I've also heard that vista is much older than Chatham. So why don't they put us all in Chatham where it is much nicer and newer and rehab vista in the process. I'm also upset b/c i am a bit of a computer geek and would like to have the option of getting a cable modem and splitting it with my other roomies if i were in Chatham. I know that in vista there is no chance on getting any sort of broadband access.

Those are just my thoughts, and i know there are others that think the same.

You will be amazed at how quickly the time passes. It is hard to believe that those 12 months Katie was in the program just flew by. She said she can't believe how fast it went. You can look forward to your vacation and hanging out with your daughter. I wish her good luck in the CP.

I'm a 3 time alumni and my husband is a 2 time alumni. That's how we met.

Just a note about the residency thing...
Just having a FL Driver's License does not constitute being a resident. If they didn't ask for further proof then you got off lucky. You are (legally) supposed to have proof that you've been a resident for one year (12 consecutive months). They accept utility bills, phone bills & such as proof. Some colleges are very strict about this, & some are very lax. I know this since I went to FSU (way back in the stone age, & lived in FL for 9 1/2 years after as a police officer. Also, if they do not plan on getting a FL DL they should keep their letter of acceptance on them to show the officer in case they are stopped. It will save them a ticket for not having a FL DL. Normally if you are not a college student you are required by state law to change over to a FL DL within 30 days of your arrival if you plan on working in the state. Just thought I'd mention these things.

I have to disagree, but just a little with you safetymom about the time flying by. LOL It will drag on all summer then in November we will think, wow it just flew by! LOL Ever notice that happening? All ready have had 2 phone calls from DD since she got there. hahahahaha She's been there 3 days including today! We are just so used to doing everything together & spending all our free time together. I'm so blessed to have her as my daughter & to have the relationship we do.

Now for a very sad note.... we had snow last night!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I, for one, am ready for warmer weather! Hope you all are having pleasant weather!

While my daughter was in the program she called me several times a day. Sometimes I think I talked with her more when she was down there then I did when she lived at home.

It helped to pass the time till I could visit her. It was nice to know that she hadn't forgotten her mother. We talked about different things she had seen and done in the parks while I relayed info about places to see and do that she didn't know. She had a digital camera and sent home pictures. She even sent a picture of the turkey dinner she had prepared.

I flew down last week for her graduation. Even though parents aren't allowed to attend I got some great pictures when she walked through Epcot after it was all done.

So we got back home yesterday and I swear her stuff multiplied while she was down there. I am sure it seems strange to her to be back home. But it is great that she is because we will be spending the day together.

She hopes to apply for the advanced internship in January. Believe me the time will pass quickly for you.

Reading the last few messages just about did me in...... I also have a great relationship with my dd who will be at Disney on June 4, and I am already getting lonesome. I am so happy for her and excited about this new experience, but we are together alot and reading these posts are really getting me emotional. I was fine......... until now. I guess it is getting closer, we just started packing, and, well, say no more, you know how it is. Marla

Mirmatt, I understand your feelings. I think I was running on adrenalin when I took my daughter down. I wasn't missing her or upset to be leaving her until the last night I was there and dropped her off at the main gate at Chatham. she hugged and kissed me and walked off without a backwards glance. I just lost it in the car. My baby girl had grown up.

I think it was great though to realize just how deep the bonds we have are. I was worried that she wasn't going to be able to manage and I am thrilled and proud to see how well she did.

Of course it was sad on holidays that she wasn't here. She called several times those days and we talked about old family memories.

On Thursday when she graduated and I met her in Epcot I was so thrilled to see her walking with her graduation cap and ears.
She looked so grown up and polished. The program was really a wonderful experience and she learned so much. I was glad to be there when she checked out of her complex for the last time on Friday and had to turn in her id cards. She was sad thinking it was all coming to an end.

She has remarked several times since we got home yesterday that the customer service in the stores here sure isn't like at Disney. She misses the program but knows we will be moving to FL in the very near future and she can go back to work at Disney.

While I was there we did lots of things together. One of them is the 3:00 parade at MK. That helped her when she got homesick to remember the things we did together in WDW.

I didn't think we could get closer as mother and daughter but this experience deepened the bonds between us. The time will pass quickly and you will get to hear lots of great Disney stories. Enjoy every moment.

BTW, I am going to WDW again June 1-6. My company is having a convention at CSR. It will be strange to be at WDW and my daughter will be at home. Guess I will have to call and torment her about what I am doing in the parks like she used to do to me.

Yep I made it through dropping her off at the airport then cried 1/2 way home. I do miss her. This is the 3rd summer in a row I have to be without her. First basic training...then AIT...now WDW.

o.k. ladies, we have to stop with the tears. My son does not leave until the last group, June 18, and you guys are gonna make me cry from now until then. I am lucky enough to be able to go down almost once a month until he comes home, but it will still be tough. We are a close-knit family and this will be a lot different than just having him 1.5 hours away at college and coming home most weekends to work.

It is comforting to talk with other folks in the same boat, though, isn't it?

Well, two weeks from tomorrow morning, we will be at the program. Did I say we? OOPS! What a bunch of saps we are...... but it is great to have such good relationships with our kids. As difficult as this is, it is such a great experience for them. Anyone know what one does in order to graduate from the program? Just wondering. Marla

As long as you make it through the program you graduate. If you have taken any Disney classes you will get your "ducktoriate".sp

You will also get a hat with the ears that has the college program on it with a tassel.

BTW, parents can't go to the graduation. I was disappointed in that. So I went to Future World in Epcot while she graduated in WS.
