Daughter is going to College Intern Program

Reading this thread makes me want to do the CP again! I remember being so excited before I went down, and the first week on the CP was crazy. (They wanted us on the bus at 6 AM? What?)

Of course, I'm one semester out from my program and I'm moving back to FL in one month and 13 days! (Transferring and changing my major in what's supposed to be my senior year of college -- my parents are so thrilled. :))

SoonerKate--just saying hello. Hope all is well with you. Thanks again for being so helpful when we first started into this process. It was very nice to have someone answer basic questions for us. Hope your move goes well.

Thanks! It was really no problem -- my friends are sick of hearing about my college program, so it's nice to be able to talk about it with people who want to listen! Keep me updated on how things are going -- I can't do another CP until I graduate, so I'm going to have to live vicariously through your son! :)

(Also, if he (or you!) ever wants to come out to Clearwater, let me know -- I'll be near the beach and I'd be glad to show him around.)

Since my daughter came home from the CP she is amazed at the lack of customer service in the stores we visit. She is always going on about how Disney does things.

To make matters worse I will be going to WDW next week and she will be staying home in PA. She is really anxious to move back to Florida and work for Disney.

Hopefully our house will sell quickly and we all will be living there soon.

I was amazed though to see how polished she has become. Disney truly helped put the finishing touches to my daughter. We were at a graduation the other night where someone announced he wanted to work for Disney. So afterwards my daughter was talking with him and she just glowed when she talked about the CP and Disney. She offered handshakes to everyone. I was very proud of my daughter and the woman she has become.

SoonerKate--where do CM's find out about taking some of the backstage tours you mentioned, Tower of Terror, etc. ???

Each month the college program housing handouts a 4 pg. booklet that tells all the goings on the previous month along with the RA's numbers and hoursing numbers. In the middle will be a very detailed list of things outside of work that any CP's can take part in. There are classes, fun parties, backstage tours, Give Kids the World opportunities, and many other wonderful things. This was my favorite part of the whole program.

thanks, I will make sure my son looks out for these. I assume he has to get to maybe the housing office to pick one up? He will have to exert some effort to get this, right?

They send out an email with these listings to all the WDWCP'ers who have given them an email address. The email is sent out weekly I believe. He can also find the schedule on the Cast Portal website.

Actually, he probably won't. His RCAs (or whatever they're calling them now) will bring the newsletter as well as flyers for any CP events to his apartment once a month. Just make sure he knows that he'll have to call to confirm for the backstage tours and that sort of thing -- and he'll have to call early, because they fill up fast. (Not Cinderella's Royal Table fast, but pretty fast nonetheless.)

They are also available in the housing office. Any e-mails will go to the e-mail address he gave to Disney when he logged into their website to accept his offer or the sheet he filled out at his interview.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. I'm wondering if anyone can comment about kids who have graduated from college already. My daughter will graduate from college next May with a degree in Spanish. She is also Pre-Med. Before she applies for Med/Dental schools we are encouraging her to take a year off and do some fun internships, etc. (She is finishing college in 3 years.) She is interested in doing something at Disney that will allow her to use the Spanish on a daily basis. Also, do you have to stay in the student housing? She wouldn't be doing this for the money and might want to just rent an apartment.

Here is the web site about the program. For this program which is the one everyone is talking about you still need to be in school. Also you have to live in their housing.

They may have some other program she can participate in.

You need to be in college when you apply. Many kids apply during their last semester of school and do the WDWCP the semester following their graduation.
