I just found out that my daughter is having another surgery and will be in a cast hip down for our November trip..thought about cancelling but other kids will be so disappointed..We are booked at CBR but now I'm worried about getting around with her. I have a 118. rate and of course its NJ week... any suggestions about what I should do? I called CRO and there wasn't alot available by way of deluxe under $250. range:( but am wondering if I should keep calling hoping that someone cancels a reservation..and just wait for AP codes to come out (hopefully there will be some).any suggestions greatly appreciated..

Thanks for the advice - my daughter is 1yo and if would normally be in a backpack or walking a little(she's been walking) but now have to worry about a stroller or some kind..

Perhaps post this question on the disAbilities board as well. Will she require a wheelchair and if so what type, etc. I think folks there are very helpful with details on the best way to get around and the challenges/solutions you can consider.

I didn't see how old you daughter is. We just returned from WDW, and my son who is 20 was in a cast for broken leg. I rented him a scooter for $30 a day. It worked out well. On the disabilities board they had listed different places that will rent, and deliver a wheelchair or scooter to your hotel. Delivery was free, and then a daily charge, and they pick it up. Good Luck, something can be worked out I"m sure.

A one year old would not be using a wheelchair and the rental places would be unlikely to be able to help you out with this situation.
Whether or not you go to WDW, you will need to work with the physician and/or PT/OT about adapting a stroller for use. With a full leg cast, you are going to have to have some way to support the weight of the cast while she's in the stroller; the leg probably can't just hang. The backpack is probably out because using one of those would mean the leg and cast are hanging onsupported (plus, the baby usually needs to be bent leg while in the backpack). Depending on just how far up the cast comes, she may not be able to sit (I'm not sure if you mean her surgery involves the hip or the cast will come up to her hip). Whatever it is, you should probably work on that before the surgery. Whether you can work that out and how hard it will be to get her in and out of the stroller will kind of determine whether or not your trip is do-able. In case what works out for you is a wagon, you need to be aware that wagons are not usually allowed in the parks (since you pull them behind you, you can't keep an eye on where the wagon is headed exactly. Also for small kids, there is a possibility of them leaning over and falling out of the wagon before you can see what's happening). If you need to use a wagon, I'd probably call Customer Service 1- (407) 939-6244
Guests with Disabilities 1- (407) 939-7807 to discuss it ahead of time.

If you work out some way to move her around, you can go to Guest Services in any of the parks and ask to be able to use the stroller in lines. Strollers are not usually allowed in lines or buildings (other than shops), but you can get a Guest Assistance Card that allows strollers to be used the same as a wheelchair (go anywhere a wheelchair is allowed).

I took my 10 year old daughter with a broken leg (She has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and is falling all the time when her knees decide they just don't want to work anymore). We got a wheelchair and she loved all the attention from the characters and cast members. I was amazed at how well WDW handles guests with disabilities. (At 10 years old an extra hug from Mickey means you are queen of the universe)

Two things to consider (which I am sure you are, don't get me wrong).

(1) If your daughter will be in pain during recovery, the trip will NOT be a good idea. You definitely would want to reschedule. Some of those rides can cause your body to move and shake which may not be good for recovery or cause more possible pain.

(2) If she will be on medication (pain or otherwise) that can make her drowsy all the time you wouldn't want to go. It breaks my heart that a 1 year old is having to deal with this kind of thing.

I definitely would take SueM's advice and speak in detail to her doctor(s) and try the WDW Disabilities number if you are given the green light by her doctor(s).

Good luck and I pray she will be well soon.:wave2:
