We have AP's. We arrive in WDW on April 2. Our AP's expire on April 11. We are going to renew & are thinking of getting PAP's.

If we renew before April 11 do they take the renewal date of April 11 for your expiration or would they take the date you are actually renewing as a new expiration date (if we renewed April 8 would our expiration date be April 8, 2005?)

Hope this question makes sense to someone!

You can renew your pass 30 days prior to your expiriation date until 30 days after your expiration date. Whenever you renew, you keep the same expiration date (just one year later).

So-- if you renew your APs on April 8th, your new tickets will still have an expiration date of April 11th. Keep in mind, you must use your old tickets until the expiration date.

If you are 'renewing' an AP into a PAP, you won't be able to use the benefits of the PAP (waterpakrs) until after your expiration date (April 11th).

I hope that was clear. :)

Thanks. We were hoping we could renew before April 11th so we could actually use the benefits of the PAP. :(

According to policy, the only way you could take advantage of your PAP before your AP expires, is to buy a PAP without renewing. Of course, you will not receive the renewal price.

Keep in mind this is Walt Disney World Policy. When you go to renew your passes, explain the situation to the Guest Relations Cast Member. Perhaps they will be able to make an exception for you. It never hurts to ask! :)

Would it be possible to upgrade to a PAP for the remainder of this AP and then renew it at the PAP renewal price??? I wonder if they pro-rate.. or charge you the whole prior year difference for upgrading??? Anyone know.. I was thinking of doing the same for my next trip.. but I will only be about 6 months in on my AP.... I leave this answer to the pros

Kathy

Upgrading towards the end of your pass is not cost effective. There are two options when upgrading from an AP to a PAP. If you wish to keep your same expiration date, you must simply pay the difference in price between the AP and PAP. There is no prorating and no discount.

The other option is to start a new year from the day you upgrade. In this case, you are given a partial discount on your AP determined by the number of days left. If you are very close to your expiration date, this will most likely just be a couple of dollars. That money is applied towards the purchase of a new PAP. This will not provide you with the renewal discount. (According to policy. The Guest Relations Cast Member may be able to make an exception.)

Hope this information helps.

I guess this is kind of what I was thinking could happen for me.

We arrive on the 2nd of April and are staying until the 17th. Our passes expire on the 17th. We are going with other family members who I know will want to do water parks.

Scenario: They want to go to a WP on the 6th. Can we renew our passes that day & change them to PAP's but change our expiration date to the 6th of April instead of the 11th?

The few days won't matter to me because when we return next year for Easter break it will be in March, therefore, my pass would still be good regardless.

Of course, I would NOT -have this problem if I hadn't absent mindedly thrown away our PHP passes when we were there in November, which had WP days left on them. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!! I try not to think about it but it always comes back to haunt me. :o

I'll go out on a limb and say that they MIGHT let you do that. (Pretty bold of me, eh? :))

Since you are essentially forfeiting 5 days of your pass and taking an earlier renewal, you may just get lucky. You probably will not be able to find anyone at WDW willing to put that in writing (or even give you a verbal commitment) before you arrive, but it's certainly worth a shot.

magicmaker's advice is certainly valid--it never hurts to ask. Policy aside, there have been some pretty wild stories here over the years of the manner in which individual CMs have handled ticket / AP upgrades--many of which do not necessarily comply with "policy".
