DAS with Scooter?

I'm not sure if this question would be better in the DISabilities thread, but it's specific just to Disneyland. Please move if needed.

I know that most of the Fantasyland rides in DL have lines that will not accommodate a scooter. In 2018 we were there with my Dad who needed a scooter. We were able to have the cast member at the exit scan our tickets and then come back at the designated time to ride. It worked out great for him!

Does anyone know if it still works like that? Or do we need to get a formal DAS set up? We will be going in September with my Mom in a scooter, and she won't be able to stand for long in lines.

Thanks!

Yes, it still works like that for people with ECVs. Any ride that the scooter won’t fit in the line will scan your tickets/app and give you a return time to come back. (If the ride is basically a walk on, they’ll sometimes not bother scanning and bring you right in. Pirates is like that in the mornings a lot.)

That said, having a scooter does not necessarily qualify someone for DAS. My mom uses a scooter and now uses DAS, because she has other medical issues that make waiting in long lines difficult regardless of mobility. So if mobility is your mom’s only issue, she won’t qualify for DAS. But if she has other reasons to qualify for DAS, then go for it.

You don't need DAS, the CM will give your mom a return time if she's in the scooter.

Thanks for this info! Mobility is her only issue, so I won't worry about getting DAS for her.

Which rides does this apply to? I'll be hiring a scooter for the the first time and had heard that they don't always fit in the queues. As I've never driven one before, that may be a good thing as there is a good chance I will be driving it like a Autopia car, veering from side to side!

Pretty much every ride in DCA allows you to bring the scooter in line. Just be careful with the corners/turns. If you go too fast, you can get a little stuck, but otherwise it’s not too bad.

At Disneyland, everything in Fantasyland proper pretty much makes you get a return time and come through the exit. Same with Pirates and Haunted Mansion and a few others. The newer the ride, the more likely you are able to take the scooter through the normal queue (Galaxy’s Edge rides, Runaway Railway, Buzz Lightyear for example.)

I think I will probably end up abandoning the scooter to walk (hobble) through the lines as I'm terrified of running someone over with it-DH has already said he is walking well behind me ! (Don't think he realises it has a reverse! ) Thanks for the info though!

I would also suggest getting a three wheeler as they are easier to turn. and a bit smaller. Those with 4 wheels are more stable though, and can take more weight. (So that might be a factor.)
Just look behind you when reversing! My mom never did remember to do that. 🙄

You will adjust to the scooter just fine!

They do beep very loudly when you back up, so honestly, that's on him for not moving if you back into him. (I'm kidding! Or am I...)
