In the past when it's just myself, the wife and kids going to WDW, we've gotten a GAC because of both my panic disorder and the disc protrusion in my back. Anyways, my MIL is coming with us this year and she's handicapped. So we were talking last night about who would get the DAS card. Brought up a couple of interesting points:

1.There will be times when she's at the park with the family and I'm not because I need to rest my back.

2.There will be times when I'm at the park and she's not because she needs to rest.

So, knowing that the person needs to be there when the group is using the pass, we just figured we'd both get one to cover us. This next part, not saying we'd do it, but it got me thinking, what's to stop me from getting a return time for Splash Mountain with my card for all 6 of us, and her getting a return time for Thunder Mountain for the 6 of us with her card, at the same time?

This has been pointed out as a fallible aspect of the system. Apparently, there have been reports of folks getting multiple DAS cards for members of their group and then abusing the system in this way. (I am referring to people who do not need the DAS in the first place. Posters here whose group hold more than 1 DAS report they are careful not to do this,) What can you say about this behavior? It looks like heinous people will continue to find ways to cheat a system created for those who need accommodations.:furious:

It all comes down to what I've always said about the GAC. It's not as if people are applying for life insurance or something. They're trying to get a card for easier ride access at a privately owned property. Why can't Disney just REQUIRE doctor's notes and copies of prescriptions?

Privacy laws make very little sense at times.

It's not a privacy law. As long as Disney is trying to make the accommodations as close to *fair and equal access* as possible, the Americans with Disabilities Act prevents them from asking for proof of disability. The other side is that there is absolutely no way for Disney employees to know that they are getting legitimate proof of disability if they did ask for doctor's notes. They get visitors from all over the world. It's probably easier to fake a doctor's note than it is to get one (I can't be the only person with doctors who require you to pay for such notes). You can't say that it must be written on a prescription pad because those aren't standardized worldwide. There's no way to quickly verify license numbers (I'm not even sure if all countries use licensing numbers the way the US does and even in the US medical license numbers are by state, not national). Ultimately it would actually take WDW more work and be more inconvenient for both Disney and guests if they asked for proof than it does not asking for proof (even taking into consideration the people who do cheat, which I strongly believe is still the minority).

I can't remember exactly, but there was discussion on the QR codes helping with this issue. It's not really clear to me on how, and I honestly didn't pay too much attention to it at the time because I figured I'd wait until it was implemented.

However, it is what it is. Even with 2 DAS cards the system is FAR less appealing than a GAC. It's not perfect, but there will always be ways around it somehow or another.

I think someone had suggested that 1 DAS would be for 2 people and 1 DAS would be for 3 if you had a total party of 5. That way both DAS cards would need to have the same ride at the same time for the whole group to participate.

I don't understand how this is an abuse of the system? I will qualify for a DAS and so will my DSIL. Often, we will go at different times and even different parks. How does my ability to receive a DAS negate his ability to obtain one? We are separate people with different issues.

I don't think anyone objects to having more than one DAS in a group. What is being questioned is having one person get a wait time for everyone in the party for one ride while the other person gets a wait time for everyone in the party for a different ride. Since you are only supposed to have one wait time at a time, some would view this as unfair.

I'm not advocating this, but I don't see how this would be any different than someone using fastpass +, fastpass - and baby swap at the same time?

I don't see it as much of an issue, but the person using 2 DAS also has access to the thing you mentioned.

Not unless they are staying onsite (except for Pop Century) and have young children.
