DAS + Rider Swap

How does DAS work with rider swap? We've only travelled as a family of 4 but we'll be bringing my sister, niece and dad (grandpa) with us on our next trip and my niece is too small to ride some things plus we're over 4. We've never used swap. Can anyone explain how it will work on, say, Everest? We can have 4 people ride with DAS so then we have 2 more. Do the 2 more just wait in standby after the group with DAS rides?

What about a virtual queue like TRON? When we go to check in for DAS, will they just send some of us through the standby line? I can't quite seem to wrap my head around how it will work. I think we'll probably buy multi-Genie-whatever for some of our party at least-- I'm just trying to understand how the system will work.

VQ- when it is time for your VQ go to a CM outside the ride and they will verify your DAS and convert the VQ to LL for the DAS party only.

You have kept up with the DAS changes I take it and are aware many who used to be approved are no longer approved? If you aren’t familiar with the changes review our DAS threads here, specifically the approval thread.

If you are riding using the standby line (or LLMP all 7 would have to buy) and your niece is too short to ride five people would be in the line while one plus child waits. After the ride the person waiting with child can ride plus one other person who already rode (so someone gets to ride twice).

If you are riding using your DAS the 4 people on the DAS would ride. The other three riders are now a separate group and cannot profit off your DAS. One rides using standby or LLMP while one waits with child and then rides while other who already rode waits with child. Or, the DAS group waits with child while the 2 ride. Another option is that the three not on DAS buy LLMP and choose their rides and DAS users try as best as possible to coordinate their rides together.

The only way to guarantee that all 7 of you ride together at all times, assuming rides that child is eligible for, is to buy LLMP and LLSP and book all your rides together for the same times or ride standby.

Yes, thanks. Lines are a struggle for her so hopefully she will continue to be approved.

I don't think that you can use rider swap as a loophole to avoid the four person DAS limit. The others will have to wait in the normal/full stand-by line.
I'm not trying to, I'm just making sure I understand how it works. So it would be 4 people going through on DAS and then 2 others in the standby line?

So helpful thank you. Would you say we probably aren't really going to use Rider Swap then since we'll need to have 2 groups regardless because of the DAS? I am probably going to buy LLMP so I'll be following new info about that to figure out how it works. DAS has always been very straightforward to us since we're a family of 4. Appreciate your clear & thorough explanation!

Depends if you are buying LLMP for all or just 3. If you all want to ride together at the same time a ride that child cannot you would need to use RS. If you are okay with some using the LL quickly and then waiting with child while others use LL you would not need to.
If only the 3 not on the DAS buy LLMP and go on different rides than DAS users the 2 would need to ride separately unless someone from DAS party watches child so they can ride together. It really depends on your touring plan. But yes, RS is avoidable in your situation
I hope you get approved for DAS and if you do ask if all 7 can be eligible for the DAS BUT only DAS holder and 3 others from the remaining 6 can book and ride any one ride at a time. Make sure all 7 are linked in your MDE account. Like this your group can take turns riding with DAS holder and perhaps may not even need to buy LLMP? DAS can do re-rides whereas LLMP cannot. Really depends on how your group wishes to do the parks.

To use Rider Swap with DAS, the DAS-holder must ride in the first party but also everyone (including party 2) must be on the DAS Return Time. It’s like old FP or G+ in that regard — everyone must be eligible to enter the LL. So unless you are able to get an exception for the extended family members on the DAS, I don’t think you can use DAS + Rider Swap for the whole party.

For attractions with Virtual Queue, anyone who intends to ride will need to have obtained a Boarding Group in the virtual queue.
If the person registered for DAS is riding, you would go to the attraction when your Boarding Group is called and let the CM know you have DAS. The CM would authorize up to 4 total to enter the LL entrance. The rest of your party would go thru the Boarding Group Wait queue.
If the DAS user won't be riding, go to the CM with your whole group and say you need to do Rider Swap. Group 1 will use the Boarding Group Wait queue and when Group 1 get off, they would take over child care and Group 2 would enter the LL to ride

Thanks for the explanations @SueM in MN and @lanejudy!

The DAS user misses nothing (not the small child) so we'll probably buy 3 LLMP for the other 3 people in most parks.

This is really helpful--I will make sure all 7 of us are on it so we can mix who goes together. When my niece can't ride, DH and I will probably wait in line after the others ride separate.

Really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to explain for me!

Hi - is this the same trip that you were asking about (Four Seasons vs. RIV)? If so I would strongly recommend staying on property if your party involves young kids. The convenience of being on property will more than offset any loss of luxury, and to the extent that the entire family may want to stay together 2/3 bedroom options are great for multi-family trips like this. GF is super convenient if your niece will be primarily focused on MK, or RIV if you think you will spend more time at HS/Epcot. Plus, if your niece is stroller age it’s very nice to NOT have to fold up a stroller to get to parks (Monorail, Skyliner, or walking).

Ha ha--definitely not. This is my family of 4 + my dad +my sister & niece. That trip will be me, stepmom and my two sisters. She does not travel with the children (she doesn't have kids--don't blame her)! We will be at Boulder Ridge in a two bedroom for this 7 person trip. My dad is not as concerned with accomodations/is doing this for the grandkids. My niece will be turning 5 on the trip so we plan on a stroller for her.

You can ask — just be aware I’ve heard very few reports that extended family was even added to the DAS. In fact there are reports of adult siblings not included. So have alternate plans ready if that occurs.
Oh, ok. Very helpful. I'll prep for it possibly be our family of 4. That would be too bad as she is so excited to show her cousin and her grandpa her favorites.
