Hello!

I will be travlieing along a child with autism next week. With the DAS pass, how many people are allowed to "tag" along? We will be at WDW.

Let me know. Thanks!

Welcome to the DISboards!

Officially, it is the person the DAS is issued to plus 5 people. A larger group can be allowed with supervisor approval. For larger groups, everyone must be present at guest services when the DAS is issued.

There is a great thread with tons of information on the DAS near the top of this forum. Here's the link:

as the PP said it is 5 along with the person with the DAS if you have more then 5 then sometimes they can accommodate this.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread a bit, but have a question just say you've got people in your group join later (still under 5 people) in the week, can you go to guest service later and get them added to the DAS?

You need to go to GR and exsplain what part of waiting in line is hard

Thanks for the help! Does a DAS pass consider Autisn?

The DAS is based on needs, not diagnosis, since two people could have the same diagnosis but very different needs. As mentioned, you need to explain to Guest Relations why the guest requesting the DAS cannot wait in the standard queue environment.

We used DAS for my daughter over 4th of July. We had a group of 6 (DAS child + 5). Four days into our trip, my brother and his wife joined us. We just had them added to the existing DAS at guest services.

Hiya!

I was there last week with my kiddo. After "toughing it out" a few days, I finally just went to the cast member at guest relations and pointed to my kid, said, "She melts down, can we get her the accommodation where her ticket waits in line for her?" And that was that. Admittedly, it probably didn't hurt that by that point we were pushing her grumpy, worn-out self in a wheelchair... but the point is, yes, Autism *most definitely* is an EXCELLENT reason to use the Guest Assistance System (they'll refer to it as Gas... which is funny. "Hi, my daughter has gas, can we come back later?")

You don't have to tell them a diagnosis, just what you need. All I told them was that she melts down, which is a GREAT reason to NOT put her in a 2 hour line. Everyone was great about it, though a few of the scanners (which look like cellphones) had trouble reading through the cases, which can be a trigger for a guest who is already at their threshold. My parents brought my niece along--she is an extra-spicy Aspie, very easy to set off-- and chose not to get the GAS, for reasons I do not know... our group has a LOT better time than theirs, being able to take breaks and come back when the kiddo was ready. Fastpass is great, but you only get the one-hour return window. GAS means you can leave for hours, take a nap, get a meal, hit the pool, whatever, and come back later in the day when they're ready.

I don't know if you misunderstood the CM, sometimes that happens with accents and different native languages, or if you are confusing the current program with the prior. The prior program was known as the GAC - Guest Assistance Card. In the fall of 2013, Disney modified the program and it now goes by the acronym DAS which stands for Disability Access Service.

I'm glad you found the program helpful for your family and enjoyed your vacation!

You're right, I probably misheard them... but whatever it's called, it was a lifesaver!
