DAS Question re: immunosuppression

We just let know we need to have the food plated when we get there. If the server does not understand or gives you any trouble just ask for the manager. It has been a while since we have been, but a friend of mine went about 9 months ago and had them plate the food in the back so I assume they still will.
One other thing we did, which I bet you already have planned, was to carry a bottle of hand sanitizer in our park bag. After every ride we all used it and we made a point to wash hands very couple of hours.
We always fly so we always used the Clorox wipes on the seat and tray, we also used a twin sized fitted sheet to put over his seat. The only time we had an issue with this was on a Delta flight and the attendant said the pilot had to approve it. He came out and of course said it was OK. The other times we have flown Southwest and they didn't even look twice at us. We also used mask while on the plane and the thing that my son hated the most was that he could not take his mask off and we would not let him get a drink from the cart, which he though was really cool. We would get his peanuts and save them for later though.
If you are staying at a Disney resort you can ask that they do a deep cleaning and you can also request the air filter be changed. Be sure to have them nite that it is a medical request.

Thanks SueM... taking notes. Amy has a dental appt just for a cleaning but I will make sure I get all this on file at the dentist office in case she requires a more advanced procedure. She has already had dental surgery for a crowded mouth and has braces but those wisdom teeth are still in there.

I will make sure Amy takes off her mask by her ear strings then washes her hands immediately afterwards. Maybe just for the plane and water rides. She also has some 'cute' goggles she has to wear because of her eye issues ... definitely hard on the ego for her.

We are drowning in hand sanitizer! Just kidding Lol.... I will make sure to get those little ones for our pockets though. I will call Disney re the deep clean/filter change but I will defintely give the room a once over when I arrive. The same with the rental car. We have gotten a lot of sticky rental cars in Orlando Lol

We will definitely have a plan B for sure.

I am worried gloves would give her a false sense of protection. I would rather her wash her hands and use hand sanitizer I think. Not a stupid idea... I tossed it around a bit myself.

She does not have rheumatoid arthritis.... she had an abnormal biopsy :( I believe a wheelchair would only be necessary if she gets tired.... but at that point I think heading back to the hotel for a rest would be the best plan. But I don't know what we will be dealing with so, if she thinks she needs a wheelchair, we will get one for sure. We are now going to rent a car so we can leave when we like and avoid the whole bus situation.

I plan to be at the parks early and take advantage of lower crowds. We definitely will be getting our fastpasses. Afternoon breaks will be new to us but I will plan for them... maybe get my fastpasses for late morning/early afternoon (if I can) and then take off.

Antibacterial wipes will be our new travelling companions! I think a mask will also be necessary on a plane but wearing it in August in the Florida heat it may do more harm than good.

She has been told to avoid hot tubs and standing water so I will avoid splash pads... I did not think of the rides though... good point.

Minnie mum, I am happy to hear that you have taken similar meds and have had minimal troubles/complications. We are hoping for the same. We are in our 'wait and see' phase so we will definitely monitor how she makes out the next couple months. She also was cautioned against eating certain foods and I would think buffets are out? Her favourite restaurant is Crystal Palace .... Tusker House is her second favourite. :( Have you had problems with any foods/food prep?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments...

My husband is on immunosuppressants and was specifically told to not eat at buffets or at any restaurant/casual service where the food is laid out in front of you (i.e. Panda Express, Chipotle, etc). Also, he cannot eat anything with sour orange (so sweet n sour sauce, most fruit juice blends, etc), grapefruit, pomegrante, any soft cheeses (including Brie) or any "stinky" cheese (like blue cheese); no sushi/sashimi. All fresh produce has to be washed for 3 minutes until warm running water prior to cutting or eating, so when we do go out, he has to request no lettuce/tomato/etc on his burger; no fresh cilantro on his burrito, etc. No hot dogs/sausages/lunch meat unless it's heated to 165 for 2-3 minutes minimum (must be steamy). No more rare steaks....all his meat and seafood must be cooked well done.

We will definitely have a plan B for sure.

for the wipes get the unscented ones as someone near you could have breathing problems from the scent. yes it can be bad enough to have EMS come. I am one who would have to ask you to put away as I can not breath around them even at the table next to us. not fun

Just wanted to add my two cents. My husband had a liver transplant 3 years ago, and we have been to Disney 3 times since then. First time we were given the GAC, and then after the change twice with the DAS. For us it is more about limiting the amount of time he spends in close quarters with large amounts of people. We also choose to either drive ourselves to the parks or will wait for a less full bus in order to avoid him being face to face with tons of germy people. Hand sanitizer all the time. We do eat at the buffets and have never had any problems as long we follow the standard buffet rules...hot food feels hot, cold food feels cold, full sneeze guard (eww) in place and dish isn't contaminated with food from another dish from serving spoon sharing.

do not forget that the first aid stations in each park have a place to rest. The nurses there have always been amazing. While MK is the most used first aid, the other three parks have always been very quiet each time we have stopped in.

Have an amazing trip

I was going to say first aid but having her in a place where other people that could be sick ( even thought most are dehydrated ) it may not be a good idea even thought they do a good job of cleaning the room after each use it would be something you need to decide but I would be sure to let them know about her low ammunsystom

Bianca and Bernard... that is very similar to Amy's list except for the sour orange, grapefruit and pomegranate but raw brocolli and raw cauliflower were on the list. She is missing her sushi already.

Definitely will get an unscented product... I certainly don't want to ruin someone's day! A car is a must now. If we have to visit the nurse, I will definitely keep them informed.

thanks for understanding about the wipes

Bring sanitizing wipes for the plane; they do not clean in between flights. We just got back with my dd who is immunocompromized, and I wiped down the plane wall, window, seat and tray table . On one plane it turned the wipe black it was so dirty. Bring hand sanitizer and use it often. We also had problems with people touching her wheelchair and using it as their personal armrest, so be prepared for that.

Good idea! We always do this incase someone on the flight before mine had Peanuts (I'm not allergic, my sister is)

According to the sticky post, it sounds like DAS is a perfect fit for us ... we don't care about the wait ...just want her to not have to wait in the crowded queue. I do realize that there are crowds everywhere but if we can avoid them in some situations I would like to do so.

Has anyone else had success with DAS for immunosuppression?

I'm sorry to hear about your DD. You all are in my prayers.

Anyway, whichever park you go to first, you will need to explain to the CMs about your DD's needs
