DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

I also think some people would prefer no one be eligible for DAS and it go away completely now that they have lost access…. Sad that some people see it as if they can’t have something then no one should and all should have to suffer. But in reality, not everyone is the same. I do think some should still be eligible but there were a lot that just got used to it and can stand in line some of the times.
Everything you said is spot on!

So it appears (??) that you were initially denied DAS on July 2, 2024 (comment: #8,541):

But you called back today (July 15, 2024) and were approved?
This was for a different child. I was very clear to the wonderful CM , that we live in a very rural area and do not have big venues where we would have to wait in a 90 minute line. I also shared the accommodations she gets at school, which I think helped. This daughter is 8. My other daughter is 28. Not sure if the age was a deciding factor.

Went to Magic Kingdom yesterday. I do not have DAS. We went to Tony’s for lunch with a reservation so, a short wait in air conditioning. Wonderful! We then chose to go to one attraction where we could wait in air conditioning without a queue. That worked for us. Basically it was my own accommodation. It was nice to have some Disney time. Being able to avoid long queues and be in air conditioning is important to me too even though I am not DAS eligible. It does impact our visits to Disney.

The topic of my post was meant to be about non-DAS accommodations or work-arounds. I am trying to be creative in what I choose to do in the park and still have a good Disney visit. The observation in the Hall of Presidents was in no way meant to advocate a political comment. I am a very, very non-political person. Most of the time I do not even vote.

No worries -- I could tell your post wasn't a political comment. I didn't want others to respond with political undertones which could potentially derail this thread from DAS discussion.

I am nervous about my husband getting DAS again. He's gotten it on every trip but for a mobility issue
He is a double leg amputee and walks on prosthetics

he can walk fine but its that standing for a long period and shifting his weight back and forth that gets him. He can't and doesn't use a wheelchair, he has PTSD from when he was amputated and couldn't walk on prosthetics and felt stuck in a chair. Lots of anxiety/PTSD if ever faced with using a wheelchair in public. Plus a wheelchair is just another medical device, he is already using one....his prosthetics.
The join the party thing won't work for us, we stick together. I carry a bag with water and his towels, he has to drain his leg sleeves and dry his legs off a lot because regulating body heat is also a thing with lower limb loss.
I'm hoping they still see this as a good reason for him, a return to line time is crucial for him.
we shall see but I'm nervous for him

When do you apply? Is it just the two of you? If it were me, I’d go forward planning to be denied based on their new description of who qualified and look at alternatives, like buying G+ (or whatever the name is for the new one starting soon).

I’ve also heard some of the lines have been shorter so maybe it won’t be as big of an issue for you.

we always get Genie+ (soon to be lightning lane single and lightning lane multi pass) and use it greatly in addition to DAS.
It's my husband, daughter and I.

I can't plan for him to be denied. Waiting in a physical queue is painful for him and he's always gotten DAS.
see....stressful

I hear ya, we always did both as well. Good luck and I hope you have a great trip!

Nonetheless, it can't hurt to already think about what to do if your husband gets denied. Even if the alternative is to cancel the trip. Figuring out all the different scenarios and what the plan is going to be when XYZ happens reduces my stress levels. Knowing there is already a new plan, makes the blow not as bad for me.

If he gets denied, there is a return to queue option where the CM can give a return time at each ride.

Hope you have a great trip!

From all accounts, this is very rare and should not be relied upon. Otherwise, what would be the point of limiting DAS approvals?

More likely the CM will offer to rejoin the party in the queue.

You might instead consider a cane chair or similar portable seat for him, since you say you would prefer to stay together.

The problem with that is more walking
We would have to physically walk to each ride to get a return time

Easier to do it through the app with DAS

@maleficent55 - moving the conversation here so as not to upset the mods. No one knows for sure whether you will get DAS, but based on reports of denials and approvals, Disney is unlikely to view your husband’s lack of desire to use a wheelchair as sufficient justification to grant DAS instead. There may be a chance depending on how they view PTSD/anxiety around wheelchair usage. But as others have suggested, it’s best to have a backup plan just in case he isn’t approved.

How old is your daughter? Might she be able to join the queue and then you and your husband join her at the merge point?

What will you do if he is denied DAS? Will you cancel? Will you still go but do less park time and more resort time or other non-park activities? I agree with PP that you probably need to at least have an idea of a "plan B" in the event he is denied DAS. A poster suggested a cane seat, another option might be a rollator since wheelchair is unacceptable to him; either of those options will allow him a place to sit in the queue if needed.

Unfortunately, I do think most guests really should consider how they might be able to make do with some form of Attraction Queue Re-entry and rejoining the party. For most hanging all hopes on getting DAS or being allowed a return time issued at the attraction is setting up for considerable stress if a denial is issued because both of those "options" seem to be very limited in availability. Pre-planning for worst case scenario helps; then if DAS is granted there can be a feeling of relief.

I thought cane seats weren’t allowed?

We don’t want to be split as a family. Our time together at Disneyland is precious.

Based on the criteria, I would be shocked if he is approved, so I don’t see any choice but to make a plane in case he is denied.

My nephew's situation is slightly different. He lost 1 leg from above the knee about 3 years ago. He enquired about DAS about 1.5 years and was denied & it was suggested he get a ECV. He didn't want to use 1 & struggled through DHS & EPCOT but knew AK was going to be really hard so he decided to try it. It really helped him enjoy the day. Don't know if that's an option for you.
