I just had a tooth extracted because the root cracked.
They prescribed Darvocet. I took one because the pain
was starting to set in and THEN I realized that I'm here
with my 8yo DS and no other adult. Will this put me out?
Please say no! I'm not planning on driving or otherwise
going anywhere.

No, it will not put you out. To me, it is only a little stronger than Tylenol.

Depends on how you tolerate medications...

I had major knee surgery 9 months ago and had Darvocet at one time - tends to make me feel a little light-headed but not drunk or out of it.

Since it makes me a little dizzy, I tend to sleep it off whenever I can! Good idea about driving - wouldn't recommend it.;)

heavy machinery......seriously.....I cannot tolerate any drugs usually and this one just made me MORE AWAKE.......like percocet did too.....dont' worry and remember to drink loads of liquids too.....hope you feel better

thanks guys, I drank a ton of water last night in preparation
for the surgery. I'm sipping water now between ice paks and
gauze pressure. Does the vaccum constitute "heavy machinery?"
lol I'm doing nothing but laying low today. DS has permission
to watch TV and play video games all day. He's overjoyed but
appropriately tender and attentive to me. This is a drag!

Not nearly what a Vicodin will do. Darvocets are pretty mild. When I have a bad migraine I will either take 2 Darvo or 1 Vicodin. One time I took 2 Vicodins and was knocked off my duff!! The headache do go away, though!!

Advil makes me buzz and Darvo wipes me out. Clearly, I have no tolerance for pain meds. :D

I guess it depends on your tolerance to other pain meds or even over the counter pain relievers.

DH just had reconstructive foot surgery 3/2/04 and the Dr tried switching him from Vicoden to Darvocet. He said compared to Vicoden (which still weren't as good for him as Percacet, but he's allergic to that....) the Darvocet are like taking Tic Tacs!

Hopefully it will give you the pain relief you'll need without making you too nutty! Good Luck!

For me, Darvocet is useless. It's still considered a narcotic, but isn't nearly as effective as Hydrocodone (Vicodin/Lorcet/Lortab) or Oxycodone (Percocet).
