Darn...Strike Averted...I Was Almost Enjoying The Stress!

There is "The Crisis De Trip"...

1996 - No Problems...

1997 - Assistant Mgr. - Won a Million Dollars and quit 15 days before my trip...

2000 - Assistant Mgr. - Got arrested for Child Abuse - She went out for cocktails while letting her elementary school kids with her Newphew - who got drunk himself - and arrested...

2004 - Disney Strike........

BUT, THERE WILL BE NO STRIKE!!!

Thousands of Walt Disney World workers approved a new three-year labor deal tonight, ending eight months of negotiations that created deep divisions within Disney's largest group of unions.

The new contract -- which covers more than 40 percent of Disney's workforce -- guarantees pay raises and significant increases in health care premiums for 22,000 theme park and hotel workers, while ending talk of a possible strike at the resort.

The contract passed 3771 to 2669, a week after workers unexpectedly voted down an almost identical offer from Disney.

The six unions that make up the Service Trades Council cover a diverse group, everyone from bus drivers and hotel maids to cooks and the costumed characters who play Mickey and Minnie.

The council formed decades ago, based on the idea that a large group of unified workers can negotiate a better deal than a smaller one.

This year, though, the council's leaders were anything but unified. And now, some of the six union leaders are publicly wondering whether the council can -- or should -- stay together.

Well, I for one, could do withOUT the stress so thanks for posting this! They were due to strike the day we arrived if it weren't for the vote that approved this contract. Yea!!!

I wondered exactly who effective the strike would have been. The unions claim to represent 22,000 workers, but only 12,000 pay dues and only about 4,000 showed up for the first vote.... makes you wonder.

Also, on the first vote some of the 6 unions had accepted the contract and were quoted in the media acting as if the process had been "hi-jacked" by one union.

The unions represent 22,000 workers, but not all of those are members in the union. Florida is a right to work state, so you don't have to be in the union to be covered under it. The union may see their numbers drop now because members are going to need the $7.50 a week to help cover the insurance costs. If the bus drivers had decided to strike, that would have been bad for the parks. Delivery companies wouldn't have crossed the picket lines, therefore, no food, no laundry for cast members, and no bus fleet.
