DARE graduation -- my dd

That is really neat! Be sure to get a picture to post :)

DS went through the DARE program with his 5th grade class this year also. I havent heard anything yet about a graduation.

My DD had this in 5th grade also. There was no "graduation." It was a course they normally take at this grade level. It was not considered a big deal at her school.

Congrats on your DD, though. Sounds like she's proud!

Congrats to your DD!!! :) They have a DARE graduation here too, and parents and friends are invited to attend, and they have the Chief of Police, and other local officials too. My DS's DARE graduation was in February.

when my older dd was in 5th grade, her DARE graduation was an hour long and took place in the school cafeteria. the DARE officer made a speach, the president of the school board spoke, a few kids read their essays. and a local politician came down to rally the troops to keep DARE in our schools -- there was an effort by the county government to stop funding the DARE program. the kids made a presentation to the DARE officer, and then each of them got a t-shirt (supplied by the PTA).

I expect younger dd's graduation will be similar in scope.

That's exciting. :) My DS was also chosen to read his essay. They make a big production of DARE in our school district. They had an assembly and relatives were invited. The police who taught the DARE classes were there, too. I think we were more excited about it than DS was.

Next Tuesday I get to help pick one of my 5th graders who will read their's at Graduation.

Congratulations to your DD!!

Congratualtions! My DD is having her DARE graduation on Thursday morning.

One of my nephews was chosen to read his essay at his DARE graduation also. My sister was very proud and I heard he did a great job. He's 27 now and says he's never tried drugs even with all the pressure out there. On the other hand he did get arrested and ended up doing prison time for something totally unrelated to drugs. My sister wasn't so proud of him then.

Anyways, I wasn't trying to rain on your parade. Congratulations!!! :D

Hey BR - Congrats!

Our 5th grader had her D.A.R.E. graduation in March (kinda early -huh?) They read a lot of the essays, and it was really nice.

The thing I liked about the program is that it seemed to actually have an impact on DD.

Congrats again.

My DD graduates from D.A.R.E. Thursday.

What a great thread--what great fifth graders we have:bounce:
