Dapper Days in September - anyone else thinking of going?

In February we went to the parks early. We didn't dress up, but DS wore a newsboy hat and plaid shorts and got cute "dapper" pictures with Goofy and Mickey. Then we went back to GCH to swim, freshen up. Then we got dressed up. Went over to the parks for a couple hours then had a Napa Rose reservation. It was perfect.

I didn't go all out because I didn't know what the weather would be like and I wanted to feel comfortable to go on rides and enjoy the park. I just wore a polka dot sweater, capris and my Sunday pearls. DS wore a vest, bow tie, skinny jeans, black converse and vintage Mickey ears. His pictures turned out super cute. As a mother of a boy I couldn't ask for anything more.

This trip I am wearing a dress. We aren't totally period. My niece is wearing a skirt her mother is making her that is more modern, but with Mickey and Minnie print fabrics. For us it's the perfect combination of being part of the event and getting to people watch... but still being able to play and have fun. We aren't locals... so it's a park day for us we don't want to loose.

We also committed to having our own Dapper Day every trip we take to Disney... just to pay our respects to Walt and his vision for such a fun family place.

Question. ...I will be at the park Sept. 13/14th. ..I know there is a Dapper event in the evening on the 12th. I really want to join in the fun but I didn't want to pull my DD out of school to be there on Friday. Will there be people in the park on Sat dressed up....or would I feel out of place being dapper that day?

On Saturday you will not be the only one if you do so! My DH & I will be there on the 11th thru the 13th and I plan on wearing vintage dresses every day. I'm not worried about feeling out of place on the days surrounding Dapper Day, but I really like the vintage style and try to do my hair/wear the clothes as much as possible so for me it is a regular thing.

im not a size 2 either in fact im a size 18! im working on reducing that size before vacation so we will see. So i completely understand how you feel but i find my dresses on a site called lindy bop and they go up to 4x and they look amazing on you, i also make circle skirts they are super easy and flattering i have found that i look thinner in vintage style than in jeans and a t shirt you should check out that site they have them on amazon as well I just purchased a bunch of colored jeans on khols .com for 12 bucks each and i cut them into capris and i go to wallmart and buy a 4 dollar shirt and make a peter pan collar and there you go it doesnt have to cost a fortune. i love to do my hair in pinup as well its so fun my dh loves it too! i went on you tube and learned how to do victory rolls and all the other cool stuff they used to do with their hair and i get to put on fake lashes and red lipstick and it doesnt look like too much. i am so used to doing my hair and makeup now that it doesnt take much time at all. i get compliments all the time on how i look. it is a real confidence booster! you should go for it its so worth it!

Lindy Bop dresses are great! 2 of my 3 I plan to wear Dapper Day weekend are Lindy Bop - they fit plus sizes great, I'm sort of a borderline XL+ and their dresses are flattering and comfy. I was mostly impressed how fast they shipped from the UK when they weren't guaranteed until right around the time we leave for DL, and I already have them at home :) I like your idea about buying Kohl's jeans, I find those fit me well and never considered cutting a few into capris, but at the price their clearance rack jeans are it is a great idea!

we will be twins im dressing dapper for the week as well! I love lindy bop mine came in in 7 days my daytime dress is the green and white polka dot dress from there! which one did u get?

The one I picked for Dapper Day is the Ophelia Garden Party dress it is turquoise and tan floral print with truquoise in the bust area...I even have shoes to match...except I don't think my feel will survive so I'm checking out shoe options today when I go shopping.

I also have a Yvette dress for the 13th, it's yellow on top with a navy blue w/ white polka dot skirt and a red bow sash.

I have a 3rd dress but it is not Lindy Bop, it is more of a pencil skirt style and I'm on the fence about wearing it the day we arrive.

My biggest concern is shoes, I want them to work with the outfits, but I can't do heels all day so now I'm on a quest for good ballet flats.

Because I'm going late 50s early 60s, I moved over to Trilbys instead of Fedoras. Ordered up 3 last night.

Wife is making her outfits, and will have hidden Mickeys on them.

I saw those online, they are gorgeous! i wanted to get the yellow and polka dot one but they didnt have my size. i got some fancy flats on mod cloth and they ship fast as well. Im doing pants and capris for the rest of the week and im making my shirts out of dresses that are fifties style and cutting them into long shirts. I want to wear a dress all week but i want to ride on splash mountain and i dont think that would work. lol will you be doing your hair fancy on saturday as well?

I made my evening dress as well! I didn't want to end up wearing the same thing as five other people! no hidden mickeys though. mine is really big because i made a petticoat and i figured go big or go home so i look like i jumped out of the movie hairspray. I cant wait to see all the clothes.

I went back and forth trying to decide between these two dresses for Dapper Days but finally went with the red. I am adding a petticoat, saddle shoes, and of course victory rolls and bright red lipstick. I have a feeling there will be others in the same dress because it's from modcloth but I don't care...I love it :goodvibes DH will be wearing red bow tie and red suspenders with gray pants and a button down shirt, topped off with a newsboy cap. I can't wait to see everyone all decked out. :cool1:

You are going to look awesome! I love both dresses! i own the blue one! Your DH will look similar to my DH! he will have a green bow tie blue pants and suspenders and a blue and green dress shirt. I wanted to get a lighter colored dress to match him but when i put on my petticoat it was like a bubble so i switched to a dark green dress with polka dots. Im doing a beehive for the daytime and down for the night. What kind of jewelry will you be wearing? Im doing pearls for the daytime and diamonds at night. Im wondering if its too much but my DH said it looks good i also will be wearing gloves both day and night. I hope lots of people have petticoats like us!:hyper:

I am a little nervous about the petticoat and sitting on rides. I hope I don't have to wrestle it down :rotfl2: I'm going with pearls too. It's been so fun doing all the "research" on makeup application, hair, etc. I could easily go rockabilly all the time (if I had the $$ to change up my whole wardrobe!).

I was REALLY hoping to go this year, but it looks like my job won't give me time off so I have to wait till February. It looks AMAZING (I love to get fancied up).

We didn't find the petticoats to be a problem last year. I'm wearing them again this year, too! I do really like having those little bike shorts under my skirt, though, just in case!

I am almost ready for DD. It took me a while to figure it out this time, for some reason, but I think I've got it. We come in on Thursday and we're going to have a fancy dinner so we're going Dapper for that as well. I'm just going to wear last year's dress for that. DD (Friday) I will be going with a rockabilly dress during the day and I decided to disbound a bit for evening with a Haunted Mansion-inspired dress/accessories. Saturday my friends will be going Hawaiian but I don't know what I'm going to do. I've not got anything Hawaiian.

My dress is one I bought last year but never wore. I found some vintage gloves at a thrift store for $6, shoes for $1, belt for $2 and a red cardigan on clearance at Target so I didn't go too overboard this time. Well....except for my red fascinator. That was a splurge! Disneyluvr2 and I couldn't resist buying these cute little hats yesterday. It's all her fault :rotfl:

Hey, who wants to do a DIS meet? I see that Tom asked about that--is there one planned? If not, we could do some kind of informal meet-up if anyone's interested.

Wife's dress is coming together. I ordered my vest... rest should be good to go!!!

Hey, those Crocs really are cute! I have narrow feet and the crocs don't normally fit me. I wonder if the flats run wide like the other styles?

I'll be with DizMe, so count me in for the meet also! Who's good at picking a time and place?

What do you think? Should we meet in GCH or the park somewhere?

I vote for the Grand. The "Official" Dis meet was there last time and we used it as a chance to get a little down time out of the park. I'm pretty excited its just going to be the wife and I... sans kids gives you a whole lot of additional options on how to approach your day.
